fix(agents): make the injected current-date timezone configurable (#5154)
* fix(agents): make the injected current-date timezone configurable ## Why The date reminder injected into the lead and subagent prompts (DynamicContextMiddleware / SubagentDateContextMiddleware) was formatted with the server's local wall clock. DeerFlow containers default to UTC, so a user in Asia/Shanghai chatting in the 00:00-08:00 window was told that 'today' is the previous day - the model then reasons, plans, and date-stamps against the wrong day. ## What changed - _format_current_date() now reads the optional DEER_FLOW_DATE_TIMEZONE env var (IANA name, e.g. Asia/Shanghai) and renders the date in that zone. - Unset = unchanged server-local behavior; invalid names log a warning and fall back to server-local. - Documented the knob in config.example.yaml, the module docstring, and the DynamicContext entry in agents/middlewares/AGENTS.md. ## Surface area - [x] Agents / LangGraph - prompt-layer date context only; message shape and midnight-update behavior unchanged - [ ] Frontend UI / Backend API / Sandbox / Skills / Dependencies - [x] Default behavior change (opt-in via env var - no behavior change unless set) ## Bug fix verification - New tests: test_format_current_date_honors_configured_timezone (UTC 20:30 -> 2026-09-03 in Asia/Shanghai), test_format_current_date_defaults_to_server_local_without_env, test_format_current_date_invalid_timezone_falls_back. - Existing mocked-datetime tests pass unchanged (no env -> datetime.now() path). ## Validation - cd backend && python -m pytest tests/test_dynamic_context_middleware.py: 31 passed. - blocking_io/test_dynamic_context_middleware.py: 2 pre-existing abefore_agent failures reproduce identically on clean main (blockbuster os.listdir detection on this host); the other 2 pass. - ruff format + ruff check clean. ## AI assistance **Tool(s) used:** Codex (coding agent) **How you used it:** analysis, implementation, and regression tests produced with AI assistance; reviewed before commit. - [ ] I've read and understand every line of this change and take responsibility for it — it's not unreviewed AI output. * fix(agents): avoid passing tz to datetime.now when no timezone is configured CI (backend-unit-tests shard 2) failed in test_tool_error_handling_middleware.py::test_subagent_chain_injects_date_without_memory_and_coalesces_for_strict_provider because its _FrozenDateTime.now() subclass override accepts no arguments, while _format_current_date() called datetime.now(None) even when DEER_FLOW_DATE_TIMEZONE was unset. - _format_current_date() now calls datetime.now() with no arguments unless a timezone is actually configured, preserving the exact legacy call shape for every datetime-subclass test fake. - The configured-zone path still calls datetime.now(tz) and converts via astimezone(tz). - Updated the no-env unit test to assert datetime.now() is called without arguments. Validation: python -m pytest tests/test_dynamic_context_middleware.py + the previously failing strict-provider test: 32 passed. ruff clean. * fix(agents): declare the effective current-date timezone in the assembly descriptor ## Why Maintainer review on the DEER_FLOW_DATE_TIMEZONE change (#5154): the knob is prompt-affecting, yet both DynamicContextMiddleware and SubagentDateContextMiddleware were invisible to the agent assembly descriptor - describe_middleware() fell back to {"probed": true} for unset, UTC, and Asia/Shanghai alike, so deployments that inject different dates shared one assembly fingerprint and release observers could not distinguish or audit the behavior change. ## What changed - Both middlewares now implement release_policy_parameters() -> dict[str, object], declaring {"current_date_timezone": <name>} as required by the module's middleware self-description contract. - The declared value is the normalized effective zone: a configured, valid DEER_FLOW_DATE_TIMEZONE is reported by its IANA key (ZoneInfo.key); otherwise the server-local zone is resolved to its IANA key when the platform exposes one and to its tzname label otherwise (fixed-offset hosts), with "UTC" as the final fallback. - Added both middlewares to _MIDDLEWARE_DECLARATIONS in backend/tests/test_middleware_release_policy.py so the existence check and the construct-and-canonical-hash check cover them. ## Verification - New tests: test_date_middlewares_declare_configured_timezone (Asia/Shanghai), test_date_middlewares_declare_utc_timezone, plus resolved-server-local assertions for the unset and invalid-env paths; both middlewares agree in every case. - cd backend && python -m pytest tests/test_dynamic_context_middleware.py tests/test_middleware_release_policy.py: 70 passed. - Regression spot-check: tests/test_agent_assembly_descriptor.py, tests/test_tool_error_handling_middleware.py, tests/test_system_message_coalescing_middleware.py: 102 passed. - ruff check + ruff format clean. * fix(agents): stabilize the declared date timezone and simplify the formatting path ## Why Follow-up review on #5154 (willem-bd). The release-policy declaration added in 884cec4b resolved the observability gap but pinned far less identity than its docstrings claimed, and the formatting path carried a production no-op. ## What changed - The declared label is now stable and unambiguous: a configured, valid DEER_FLOW_DATE_TIMEZONE is reported by its IANA key; without one, the server-local zone is resolved to a real IANA key from the TZ env var or the /etc/localtime symlink (Linux/macOS); when no key is recoverable (Windows, stripped containers) the declaration falls back to a stable `server-local(+-HH:MM)` sentinel carrying the current UTC offset. It never reports a bare abbreviation - datetime.now().astimezone() yields only a fixed-offset timezone whose tzname (e.g. CST, EST/EDT, CET/CEST) is ambiguous or DST-churns, which the assembly descriptor docstring says must not happen. - Dropped the redundant astimezone(tz) in _format_current_date(): datetime.now(tz) already returns the instant expressed in tz. The configured-zone test now fakes datetime.now(tz) semantics (the fixed instant converted into the requested zone) instead of relying on that conversion. - Documented why the knob is an env var, not a config-schema field: it is read at runtime by both date-context middlewares so an operator can point a container at another zone without mounting a config.yaml (module docstring + config.example.yaml note). - AGENTS.md: fixed the glued DynamicContext sentence (missing separator). - Added tzdata>=2025.1 to the harness runtime dependencies (with uv.lock) so ZoneInfo works on stripped containers / Windows without an OS zone database. ## Verification - New tests: test_server_local_timezone_name_reads_tz_env, test_effective_timezone_sentinel_uses_offset_when_local_zone_is_not_resolvable; reworked test_format_current_date_honors_configured_timezone to exercise the real datetime.now(tz) path. - cd backend && python -m pytest tests/test_dynamic_context_middleware.py tests/test_middleware_release_policy.py tests/test_agent_assembly_descriptor.py tests/test_tool_error_handling_middleware.py: 140 passed. - ruff check + ruff format clean. * fix(agents): offload subagent date injection off the event loop ## Why Follow-up review on #5154 (willem-bd, P2): SubagentDateContextMiddleware.abefore_agent() called _inject() directly, so enabling DEER_FLOW_DATE_TIMEZONE could synchronously read the OS timezone database (or the tzdata wheel) on a cold cache - filesystem work on the async subagent execution path whenever no assembly observer resolved the zone first. ## What changed - SubagentDateContextMiddleware.abefore_agent() now offloads the injection via asyncio.to_thread with the same bounded timeout DynamicContextMiddleware uses (issue #3402); on timeout it logs and skips the date update for that run instead of blocking the loop. - Narrowed the exception handling in _date_timezone() and the TZ-env branch of _server_local_timezone_name() to configuration-shaped failures (ZoneInfoNotFoundError / ValueError / OSError). Previously a blanket `except Exception` also swallowed BlockingError raised by the blocking-I/O regression gate, mislabeling a loop-blocking call as an invalid timezone and silently degrading to server-local - which made the new regression anchor useless. Other exceptions now propagate. ## Verification - New blocking-I/O regression anchor (backend/tests/blocking_io/test_subagent_date_context_middleware.py): drives a real create_agent graph under the strict Blockbuster gate with the knob enabled and asserts the date reminder is injected. Verified it fails (BlockingError) when the offload is reverted and passes with it in place. - python -m pytest tests/blocking_io/test_subagent_date_context_middleware.py: 1 passed. The two pre-existing os.listdir failures in tests/blocking_io/test_dynamic_context_middleware.py reproduce unchanged on this host (same as clean main). - python -m pytest tests/test_dynamic_context_middleware.py tests/test_middleware_release_policy.py tests/test_tool_error_handling_middleware.py tests/test_agent_assembly_descriptor.py: 139 passed; the single ToolReceiptMiddleware-ordering failure reproduces with the change stashed (local extensions registry, unrelated to this PR). - ruff check + ruff format clean. * fix(agents): read the direct /etc/localtime symlink target for the zone key ## Why Follow-up review on #5154 (willem-bd, P2): on macOS, /etc/localtime commonly points to /var/db/timezone/zoneinfo/<zone>, but Path.resolve() follows that directory's own symlink and yields a versioned path such as /private/var/db/timezone/tz/2026c.1.0/zoneinfo/Asia/Shanghai, which matched no configured prefix. The server-local resolution then returned None and the assembly descriptor fell back to a server-local(+HH:MM) sentinel even though the IANA key was available - conflating zones that share an offset and making DST-based fingerprints unstable. ## What changed - _server_local_timezone_name() now reads the direct symlink target via os.readlink("/etc/localtime") instead of Path.resolve(), so macOS' unversioned zoneinfo path is seen as-is and its IANA key is preserved. - The zone key is taken from whatever follows the last "/zoneinfo/" segment, which also handles Apple's canonical versioned path when a direct target already carries it, and relative targets are normalized against /etc. - Removed the now-unused Path import and the fixed zoneinfo prefix tuple. ## Verification - New tests: test_server_local_timezone_name_reads_direct_macos_symlink_target, test_server_local_timezone_name_reads_apple_versioned_symlink_target, and test_server_local_timezone_name_normalizes_relative_symlink_target. - python -m pytest tests/test_dynamic_context_middleware.py tests/test_middleware_release_policy.py tests/test_agent_assembly_descriptor.py: 105 passed (75 after re-running the first two on the merged main). The blocking subagent anchor still passes; the two pre-existing os.listdir blocking failures on this host are unchanged. - ruff check + ruff format clean. --------- Co-authored-by: Willem Jiang <willem.jiang@gmail.com> |

fix(deps): depend on renamed tenki package instead of tenki-sandbox (#5087)
* fix(deps): depend on renamed tenki package instead of tenki-sandbox tenki-sandbox has been removed from PyPI and republished as tenki. Its old wheel URL still resolves, so existing lockfiles keep installing and the breakage is invisible to anyone with a warm lock; any fresh resolution fails with 'tenki-sandbox was not found in the package registry'. tenki 1.0.2 still ships the tenki_sandbox module, so the imports in community/tenki/provider.py and sandbox.py are unchanged. Fixes #5081 * fix(tenki): point install guidance at the renamed distribution The rename to `tenki` left the user-facing remediation still naming the removed package. `_import_client` raised "pip install tenki-sandbox" on the missing-extra path — the exact instruction this change proves now 404s on PyPI, handed to the user at the exact moment they need it to work. Update that message and the remaining `tenki-sandbox` references in the provider, sandbox adapter, README, sandbox AGENTS.md and the test docstring. The imported module stays `tenki_sandbox`, so the distribution and module names now differ; each mention says so rather than just swapping the string. No behavior change beyond the error text. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(tenki): migrate the provider to the 1.x workspace-only API Renaming the dependency was not enough. tenki 1.0.2 keeps the tenki_sandbox module name but not its contract: Client.create dropped project_id and has no **kwargs to absorb it, and IdentityWorkspace no longer carries `projects` (the attribute is gone from the package entirely). Both configuration paths therefore failed before a sandbox could be created — explicit project scope raised TypeError, and automatic scope raised AttributeError walking workspace.projects. Scope is now the workspace alone. _resolve_scope returns a single workspace id, auto-selecting when the account has exactly one, and project_id is gone from create_kwargs and from the documented config surface. A stale project_id in config.yaml warns rather than fails. SandboxConfig is extra="allow", so simply not reading the key would leave it scoping nothing with no signal; it also used to short-circuit the identity lookup, so operators with more than one workspace need to know they must now set workspace_id. The suite passed against the broken provider because the fake client took **kwargs and swallowed the project_id the real SDK rejects. The double now mirrors 1.0.2 — keyword-only, no **kwargs — so an unexpected argument is a TypeError in tests exactly as it is against the SDK. Reintroducing the old create call fails 20 tests; before this change it failed none. Verified against the exact locked wheels: every other kwarg the provider passes (name, workspace_id, sticky, wait, max_duration, image, cpu_cores, memory_mb, env) and every SDK surface it touches (who_am_i, Identity.workspaces, wait_ready, exec, close, the fs API, the four terminal exception classes) is unchanged in 1.0.2. Reported by willem-bd in review. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * docs(config): drop sandbox.project_id from the Tenki example The canonical example still documented project_id as a supported optional key after the provider stopped honouring it, so an operator following it could set the key, get no scope from it, and hit a workspace-resolution failure with nothing in the example to explain why. Replaced with a migration note rather than a silent deletion: someone upgrading already has the key in their config.yaml and needs to know it is inert now and that workspace_id is what scopes a sandbox on Tenki 1.x. --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Aniket Wagh <aniketwaghh@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat(extensions): let an out-of-tree extension observe what the agent did (#4863)
* feat(extensions): let an out-of-tree extension observe what the agent did
DeerFlow's extension system can contribute middleware, services and routes,
but an extension cannot answer basic questions about a run without reaching
into host internals. Several of the facts it would need are destroyed by the
operations that produce them:
* The middleware chain injects and rewrites a lot of context — date
reminders, recalled memory, compaction summaries, durable-context data,
image payloads, activated skill bodies. Downstream, none of it is
attributable: at the model-call boundary an injected HumanMessage is
indistinguishable from the user's own, and anything wanting to tell them
apart has to pattern-match prompt wording, which breaks on the next copy
edit.
* Two runs of "the same agent" are only comparable if the chain enforced the
same limits, prompts and thresholds. Recovering that from outside means
reading private attributes and guessing which of them change behaviour — a
guess that rots silently as middlewares gain fields.
* The lead-agent factory resolves a model after runtime overrides, renders a
prompt, filters tools through authorization and composes a stack, all
inside one synchronous call, and none of it survives: a middleware sees its
neighbours but not the prompt, the run worker sees a graph but not what
went into it.
* Summarization is destructive by design. N messages leave the context and
one summary enters it; afterwards only the summary exists, so "which
messages became this?" is not reconstructible.
This adds seven neutral facilities so those facts are recorded where they are
still true, and releases the contract package as 0.2.0.
Message provenance
Producers stamp `deerflow_content_kind` / `deerflow_producer_kind` onto the
messages they inject or rewrite. Stamping is unconditional — a fact whose
presence depends on whether an observer is installed is not a fact — and the
keys are server-owned, so provenance cannot be forged from a request.
Middleware self-description
Twelve middlewares declare their own behaviour-affecting parameters through
a duck-typed `release_policy_parameters()`. Long text is hashed rather than
embedded: a declaration is an identity, not a copy of the prompt.
Agent assembly descriptor
`assemble_lead_agent()` returns the graph plus a descriptor whose fingerprint
answers "did anything about this agent change between these two runs?".
`make_lead_agent()` keeps its graph-only signature — it is the LangGraph
Server ABI declared in langgraph.json. Tools and skills are sorted before
hashing because their assembly order is incidental; middlewares are not,
because stack order decides what wraps what. Host build identity is reported
but excluded from the fingerprint, so a redeploy does not invalidate every
agent's identity.
Context compaction observation
Summarization emits the content hashes of the messages it is about to remove
joined to the summary that replaced them. Content is the only identity
available at that seam: the summary does not become a message, and what later
projects it into a request renders it bounded and escaped rather than
verbatim.
Neutral policy, transform and MCP-source facts
Guardrail decisions are published to runtime context under a `__`-prefixed
key; result-rewriting middlewares append a declared, ordered transform trail;
MCP tools carry their credential-free logical origin.
Extension route identity
Contributed routes are session-authenticated and cannot opt out, but
"logged in" and "administrator" are different questions. Extensions get a
neutral projection of the caller rather than the host's auth context, and
`require_admin` fails closed when identity cannot be determined.
Extension-owned tables
An extension that persists data owns its own MetaData and migration chain, so
its tables are absent from Base.metadata and `alembic revision --autogenerate`
proposes dropping them. Extensions declare a table prefix, which is rejected
at registration if it would shadow a host table.
The contract package stays dependency-free and imports no host code; every new
Protocol method has a default so later additions remain additive. The loader's
pre-1.0 rule requires an exact major.minor match, so extensions written against
0.1 are now refused at startup with an actionable install hint rather than
loading into a host that implements a different surface.
uv.lock records the contract package's new version, so `uv sync --locked` still
resolves on a fresh checkout.

feat(extensions): add gateway contribution points and packaged extension management (#4780)
* feat(extensions): add gateway services and routers * feat(extensions): add standalone reference extension * fix(extensions): harden contributed gateway routes * docs(extensions): document gateway contribution points * feat(extensions): add operator CLI for packaged extension management Add `deerflow extensions install/list/enable/disable/remove` plus the root `make extension-*` wrappers, backed by an `ExtensionManager` that owns one transaction over backend/pyproject.toml, backend/uv.lock, the managed source snapshot, the uv environment, and the `plugins:` block in config.yaml. Install accepts a package requirement, a public HTTPS Git URL, or a local directory. Local directories are copied to backend/extensions/sources/ as deployable snapshots rather than editable installs, and the root .dockerignore re-includes that tree so snapshots reach the backend builder. Remote sources are HTTPS-only; SSH Git, file:// and local wheels are rejected because the stock Docker builder cannot reproduce them. Because environment configuration can still resolve a plain package name to a local wheel (a UV_FIND_LINKS wheelhouse, say), every uv add/remove is followed by an audit of the new lock: any local reference the stock image build cannot reproduce rolls back the whole transaction. A config carrying duplicate top-level `plugins:` keys is rejected outright rather than managed against one block while the Gateway reads another. Dependency synchronization now has one lock authority. The `extensions` dependency group joins [tool.uv].default-groups, every startup path syncs the same lock with --locked and launches with --no-sync, and the Docker images move to uv 0.11.1 for the --no-workspace boundary the manager needs. Loader gains `enabled`, `name` and `package` fields so a disabled extension is skipped before resolution and import. Co-authored-by: Codex <codex@openai.com> * fix(extensions): stop the managed plugins rewrite from destroying config Two data-safety defects in the managed `plugins:` block writer. The "next top-level key" boundary was a regex matching only `[A-Za-z_][A-Za-z0-9_-]*` or a quoted key. `AppConfig` is `extra="allow"`, so a config may legally carry any top-level key, and a key the pattern cannot recognize did not fail loudly — it read as "no next section", and the rewrite replaced that neighbour and its entire subtree with the managed block. `my.key`, `2fa`, `$schema`, `my key` and non-ASCII keys were all silently deleted by a plain `extension-enable`/`disable`. Both boundaries now come from the YAML parser's node marks, so key shape is irrelevant. The file-final branch never consulted the trailing-comment scan the has-next-key branch used, so any comment below the block was dropped. Since the manager appends `plugins:` at end of file, that is the steady-state shape for most installs: an operator note below the block was destroyed on the next toggle. Separately, every managed install wrote `required: true` while the loader defaults to false. That turned any later load failure — broken wheel, missing native library, deleted snapshot — into a Gateway startup abort recoverable only with shell access. New records are now written `required: false`, with an explicit `install --required` opt-in; adopting an existing hand-written record still preserves the operator's own choice. * fix(extensions): harden the manager transaction and correct its docs Follow-up hardening on the extension package manager. Security posture, which the docs already claimed: - Scrub `UV_PYTHON`, `UV_INSECURE_HOST`, `UV_CONSTRAINT` and `UV_NO_BUILD_ISOLATION` from the controlled uv environment. `UV_PYTHON` swaps the interpreter that the entry-point probe then imports and calls, and every later `uv run --no-sync` startup uses; `UV_INSECURE_HOST` removes the TLS validation the HTTPS-only source rule depends on. Neither is an index, proxy, cache or credential-provider setting, so neither was covered by the carve-out. - Recognize run-together and all-caps secret query parameters (`accesstoken`, `ACCESSTOKEN`, `key`, `pw`, `sas`, `code`). The camel-case splitter only fires on case transitions, so only the separated spellings were caught. Short generic words stay boundary-anchored, so `?keyword=` remains installable. - Validate the config before running any uv command. `uv add`/`uv sync` execute the package's build backend, so a config the manager could never write to must fail before that code runs rather than afterwards through rollback. Transaction integrity: - Run the second dependency-file restore from a `finally`. The recovery sync runs without `--locked` when the checkout had no lock, so uv writes one while resolving; if that sync then failed, the restore was skipped and the operator kept a lock file they never had. A failing recovery sync now also reports the original failure instead of replacing it. - Skip the recovery sync on cancellation. Answering Ctrl-C with a full dependency resolve invites a second interrupt that escapes the handler and strands the checkout mid-transaction; the declarations are already restored and the next locked startup sync reconciles the environment. - Retry a non-blocking lock on Windows instead of using `msvcrt.LK_LOCK`, which gives up after ~10s — far shorter than a real `uv add` plus `uv sync`, so contention surfaced as `Permission denied` rather than serializing. - Locate the entry-point probe's JSON payload instead of parsing stdout's first line, so a `sitecustomize`/`.pth` banner cannot roll back a good install. - Warn when the lock records a loopback source. `127.0.0.1` inside the image builder is a different machine, but unlike an environment-driven wheelhouse resolution this is a source the operator typed deliberately, so it is reported rather than rolled back. Private-network indexes are untouched: a builder on that network can reach them. Docs: the blanket claim that failed operations restore the config file was wrong — the conflict branches deliberately preserve a concurrent external edit and leave `remove` deactivated. Document that, the `required: false` default, the config preflight, the interrupt behaviour, and where the plugins-block boundaries come from. * test(gateway): pin the request-path projection agreement `get_request_route_path()` imports the private `starlette._utils.get_route_path` so the auth and CSRF predicates classify the exact string Starlette's router matches on. Its requirement is not "strip root_path correctly" but "return what the dispatcher is matching", so delegating to the router's own implementation keeps the two in lockstep by construction. Keep the private import rather than vendoring a copy: an import that disappears fails loudly at startup, while a stale copy diverges silently at a security boundary. Cover the property directly instead of the mechanism, so the tests survive a future reimplementation: - projection edge cases, including the segment-boundary guard that keeps root_path="/api" from slicing "/apifoo/models" into a string the router would never match - agreement with the router under nested mounts - the two bypasses these predicates exist to prevent: a protected route mounted under the "/health" public prefix must still 401, and a POST mounted under "/api/webhooks" must still require a CSRF token Both are verified to fail when the projection is reverted to `request.url.path` (9/13 red) and when a plausible vendored copy omits the boundary guard (the 2 boundary cases red). Declare starlette as a bounded direct dependency so a bump — which is security-relevant here — shows up in review rather than arriving silently through FastAPI. * ci: pin uv to the version production ships ExtensionManager is not a consumer of uv the build tool -- it is a program whose whole job is driving `uv` as a subprocess, depending on its CLI behavior (`--no-workspace`, `--no-sync`, what `uv add` writes into `[dependency-groups] extensions`) and on the `uv.lock` serialization format. uv is closer to a runtime dependency with a contract than to incidental tooling. backend/Dockerfile pins that binary to 0.11.1, but all eight astral-sh/setup-uv steps installed whatever was latest at run time, so CI exercised the manager against a uv that is not the uv production runs. The sharpest failure that allows: a newer uv bumps uv.lock's `revision`, CI stays green because the same uv reads back what it wrote, and the pinned uv in the production image cannot read the committed lock. `uv lock --check` is version-sensitive for the same reason -- it verifies the lock is what *this* uv would produce, and two versions can emit equivalent but non-identical output. Pin every step to 0.11.1 and lift the one lingering setup-uv@v3 to v7 so the steps share input and caching behavior. Pinning alone drifts apart again on the next bump, so add a constraint test in the style of test_compose_default_bind_host.py: the Dockerfile's UV_IMAGE tag is the single source of truth, and both compose defaults plus every setup-uv step must match it. Verified to fail when a pin drifts, when a step omits `version`, and -- the real scenario -- when the Dockerfile is bumped alone, which lights up the workflows and both compose files at once. * fix(gateway): state the extension route auth limit and abort a failed dev sync Two scoped review follow-ups. README: contributed routers cannot enter the host's reserved public prefixes, which makes every extension endpoint session-authenticated -- there is no way to expose an unauthenticated route. The rejection rule was documented but its consequence was not, so inbound provider webhooks and public status endpoints read as merely undocumented rather than out of scope for this release. docker/dev-entrypoint.sh: the self-heal retry reuses `--locked`, so it repairs a corrupt .venv but never a lock that disagrees with pyproject.toml. `set -e` already stopped the script there -- uvicorn was not being started against a stale environment -- but it exited on a bare uv exit code with no indication of what to do. Abort explicitly with the cause and the fix. Tests slice the sync block out of the real script and run it against a stub uv, so they exercise the shipped code rather than a copy of it (/app/backend only exists inside the container). They cover the success path, the retry that recovers, the abort, and the guidance. Verified against the pre-fix script: only the guidance case goes red, confirming the abort itself was already correct. * fix(extensions): point Git SSH shorthand at the HTTPS correction Git's SCP-like shorthand carries no URL scheme, so `git+git@host:org/repo.git` reached the scheme rules looking like a bare path and was rejected with "local path references are not deployable; pass a local directory so DeerFlow can snapshot it". The operator asked for a remote source, so that guidance points at the wrong fix. Detect the shorthand ahead of the scheme rules and report the public-HTTPS correction instead. The bare `git@host:org/repo.git` spelling took a different wrong turn: packaging parses it as a direct reference named `git`, leaving `host:org/repo.git`, whose `host` reads as a URL scheme and produced the generic HTTPS message. Both spellings now share one message, as does the PEP 508 named form. * docs: keep the root extension summary within its new budget #4799 split the depth out of the module guides and added a size gate; the root file's job is now orientation, and this branch had pushed it 192 bytes past the soft limit. The manager transaction, source rules, and lock discipline are already stated in full in the extensions guide, so the root keeps the one-line orientation and points there instead of restating them. --------- Co-authored-by: Codex <codex@openai.com> |

feat(extensions): observe task lifecycle and system model calls (#4684)
* feat(extensions): observe task lifecycle and system model calls PR 1 (#4636) gave extensions a middleware chain, and a middleware only sees what passes through the agent graph. Two runtime surfaces stay invisible to it: when a lead run or a subagent begins and ends, and the DeerFlow-owned model calls made outside the graph. This slice adds both, with no new Gateway surface -- routers, services, and the reference extension stay in PR 3. Contract (deerflow-extension-api 0.1.1) --------------------------------------- Two contribution kinds join `middlewares` on the registry: `task_lifecycle` (`on_task_start` / `on_task_stop`, receiving a `TaskInfo` and a conservative `TaskOutcome` of completed / aborted / failed) and `system_model_observer` (`on_system_model_call`, receiving a `SystemOperationKind`, a `SystemModelRequest` snapshot, and a `SystemModelResult` carrying either the response or the provider exception plus a duration). `SystemModelRequest.messages` normalizes to a tuple at construction. Goal evaluation and memory extraction pass a message list while title generation and summarization pass one prompt string, and a bare `str` already satisfies `Sequence` -- without normalization an observer iterating `request.messages` would silently walk characters. Copying also makes the frozen snapshot immutable in fact rather than only by declaration, since observations may run after the call site returns and keeps mutating its own list. Registry marks and rollbacks become per-bucket and positional, so an `install()` that fails after registering two different kinds cannot leave one of them behind. `needs_task_store` now covers all three kinds: a deployment that registers only lifecycle hooks still gets a task store. Task lifecycle -------------- The lead worker notifies start after the run has started and stop after completion persistence and the completion hook, but before clearing the finalizing barrier and publishing the stream end -- holding the barrier across stop is what keeps a same-thread replacement run from overlapping this task's lifecycle. Cancellation raised out of the stop notification is deferred, not propagated in place, so a cancelled run still clears the barrier and emits its end frame. A subagent with a parent `run_id` wraps its execution in the same pair inside `finally`, reporting `parent_task_id` so a delegation tree is reconstructable; a subagent without a `run_id` (embedded client, standalone LangGraph Server) logs and skips rather than inventing a parent. Contributors run in registration order inside one shared 3s budget and every failure is logged and failed open. System model calls ------------------ Four kinds cover the model calls the middleware chain cannot see: goal evaluation, memory extraction, title generation, and summarization. Each site reports both terminal paths without changing the provider exception the host observes, short-circuits on `has_system_model_observers`, and passes the live task store when the runtime has one (detached work gets an isolated store). The sync summarization half stays unobserved on purpose -- it and its only host caller are the sync side of an async-only runtime, so notifying there would block a thread on a call site the host never reaches; the reason is recorded at the call site. The DeerMem backend must stay vendorable and cannot import the extension API, so it reports through a new `MemoryCallbacks.on_memory_llm_result` host hook that the DeerFlow-side callbacks translate into an observation. Notification loop ----------------- Extension resources must be touched on the loop that created them, but subagents can execute on isolated loops and DeerMem runs on a worker thread. The Gateway registers its serving loop before any runtime dependency starts and resets it last through the exit stack, so every startup-failure and cancellation path is covered. Awaited hooks raised on another loop are dispatched across with `run_coroutine_threadsafe` and awaited under the same budget; synchronous sites submit fire-and-forget work. Shutdown stops accepting detached observations before the memory flush -- that flush runs on a worker thread and can emit memory observations -- while keeping the loop alive for awaited task hooks until run and subagent drain completes. Tests ----- `test_extension_task_lifecycle.py`, `test_extension_subagent_lifecycle.py`, and `test_extension_system_model_calls.py` cover ordering, fail-open, budget exhaustion, snapshot binding under a concurrent singleton replacement, the loop-dispatch and shutdown-suspension paths, and both terminal paths at every call site. `test_gateway_run_drain_shutdown.py` pins the stop-before-barrier and drain ordering. * fix(extensions): decide notification fail-open by origin, observe cancellation `_notify_each` only guarded `Exception`, so a contributor letting a `CancelledError` escape — an extension implementing an internal timeout with cancellation, say — skipped its successors and reached the worker's deferred-interrupt path, ending an otherwise successful run as cancelled. Fail-open is about where a failure came from, not its base class: only a genuine cancellation of the host task increments `Task.cancelling()`, so propagate on that and contain everything else. `KeyboardInterrupt` / `SystemExit` still propagate. `observe_system_model_call` skipped observers on cancellation for the same base-class reason, leaving goal / title / summarization silent on a terminal path that is routine — interrupt/rollback admission and shutdown both cancel the run task, with the provider tokens already spent. Awaiting observers there is unreliable (a repeated cancel interrupts that await before any of them runs), so report through the same non-blocking submission the synchronous memory bridge uses, then propagate the cancellation untouched. DeerMem keeps `BaseException` around its provider call, now with the reason recorded: that path runs on a worker thread, where cancelling the awaiting side never interrupts the running thread, so `CancelledError` cannot arrive at all. Its host-hook wrapper narrows to `Exception` — only the hook's own failures are non-fatal, and an observability path must not swallow a process teardown signal. * fix(extensions): warn on budget exhaustion, scope observer logs by task, propagate teardown Review response on #4684: - The memory observation bridge caught BaseException, which would swallow a teardown signal raised while dispatching; it now catches Exception, matching the boundary the DeerMem-side call site documents and tests. - A notification-budget timeout raised mid-hook fell into the generic hook-failure path and logged an asyncio-internal traceback; it now logs a warning like the pre-hook budget skip, while a TimeoutError a contributor raises on its own stays classified as a hook failure. - System model observer logs passed the operation kind as the task id, so log lines said "task goal/title/..."; they now carry the task scope id alongside the kind. |

feat(extensions): add middleware plugin foundation (#4636)
* feat(extensions): add middleware plugin foundation * fix(extensions): stop config resolution from masking extension loading `create_app()` resolved the configured plugin list inside the fail-open guard around `load_extensions()`. CI has no `config.yaml` (gitignored and never generated by the workflow), so `get_app_config()` raised `FileNotFoundError` there and was swallowed as an extension failure -- `load_extensions()` never ran at all, and the four `create_app()` tests in `test_extension_app_loading.py` passed locally but failed on every runner. Resolve the plugin list before the guard. Only an absent `config.yaml` is tolerated, mirroring `_resolve_trace_enabled_for_app_construction()`: `create_app()` runs at import time, and lifespan still performs strict config loading before serving. A `config.yaml` that exists but fails to parse or validate now propagates instead of being reported as an extension failure -- reporting it as the latter silently dropped a `required: true` extension rather than failing the boot. Make the tests config-independent with an autouse `stub_app_config` fixture, following the existing pattern in `test_gateway_lifespan_shutdown.py`, and cover both new branches of the config-resolution boundary. * fix(extensions): bind the run's extension snapshot through subagent delegation The lead-agent path resolves one immutable loaded-extension snapshot per run and binds it through task-store allocation and graph construction, but the subagent path re-read the process-wide singleton at execution time. In production both are the same object, yet a `set_loaded_extensions()` between the lead run's start and a subagent's execution (test teardown, a future hot-reload path) would let one run mix two extension generations — exactly what the documented invariant exists to prevent. The graph-build binding is a ContextVar scoped to synchronous construction, so it has already exited by the time a tool delegates; the snapshot has to travel through runtime context instead. The run worker publishes it under the host-internal `EXTENSION_SNAPSHOT_CONTEXT_KEY` (written after the caller merge, popped when the run has none, so a caller-supplied value is never authoritative), `task_tool` reads it back through the type-checking `resolve_run_extensions()`, and `SubagentExecutor` binds it at construction. Callers outside the Gateway run path — embedded `DeerFlowClient`, standalone LangGraph Server — install no snapshot and keep the existing `get_loaded_extensions()` fallback. * refactor(extensions): defer the ordering table by call, not by a lying tuple `CORE_ORDERING_CONSTRAINTS` was a `tuple` subclass that overrode only `__iter__` and resolved into a class-level `_resolved` side channel. A tuple cannot populate its own storage after construction, so the instance stayed the empty tuple it was built as: `len()` was 0, `bool()` was False, `in` was always False, indexing raised, slicing and `reversed()` came back empty, and it compared unequal to the plain tuples tests substitute for it — all while iteration yielded the real constraints. Only `assert_ordering` consumed it, and only by iterating, so the split went unnoticed. The sibling `_AnchorTable(dict)` uses the same idea soundly because dict is mutable: `self.update()` fills the real storage, making every inherited operation correct. That trick does not survive the port to an immutable type. Replace it with `core_ordering_constraints()`, matching how `stack.py` defers the same kind of table via `_anchors()`. The deferral is kept — it is about dependency direction, not just cycles: `extensions/` is the layer the middleware layer calls into, so a module-scope `agents.middlewares` import here points the dependency backwards and closes a cycle as soon as any middleware imports something under `extensions/` at module level. Resolution stays at `assert_ordering` time, which already runs inside the middleware builder. Tests pin both halves: the returned value is a plain tuple whose len/bool/ membership/indexing/reversal/equality agree with iteration, and a subprocess probe asserts importing `extensions.ordering` does not load the middleware layer while calling the function does. |

feat(sandbox): add Tenki cloud sandbox provider (#4382)
* feat(sandbox): add Tenki cloud sandbox provider Adds deerflow.community.tenki, a SandboxProvider backed by Tenki cloud microVMs, alongside the existing e2b_sandbox / boxlite / aio_sandbox backends. Selected via `sandbox.use: deerflow.community.tenki:TenkiSandboxProvider` (resolved by class path, so the change is purely additive). The full Sandbox contract is implemented — execute_command plus read/write/update/download_file and list_dir/glob/grep — with file ops run as busybox-portable shell commands (cat / find / grep / chunked base64), reusing deerflow.sandbox.search, mirroring e2b_sandbox and boxlite. Tenki's SDK is synchronous, so unlike boxlite there is no event-loop bridge. Tenki sandboxes run as an unprivileged user with /mnt root-owned, so the /mnt/user-data virtual prefix is remapped under the writable home dir (like e2b_sandbox); the provider also best-effort sudo-symlinks /mnt/user-data to that home dir so agent shell commands using the literal path still work. Sandboxes are pooled per (user, thread) with warm reclaim, a replica cap, and an idle reaper via the shared WarmPoolLifecycleMixin. Transient transport blips get one bounded retry; terminal session errors evict and recreate. Only the stable Tenki surface is used (create/terminate + exec/shell/fs) — no volumes, snapshots, or template builds — so any stock base image works. The tenki-sandbox SDK is an optional extra (deerflow-harness[tenki]) and is imported lazily, so a default install and every other provider are unaffected. Tested: unit suite runs in CI without tenki-sandbox installed; a live integration test and full-surface e2e were verified against real Tenki sandboxes. * fix(sandbox): remove unsafe auto-retry from Tenki exec Pre-merge review caught that the transient-transport retry sat at the universal _exec layer, so it retried every operation — execute_command and base64 file-write chunks included. gRPC has no exactly-once guarantee: a "socket closed" ack-drop after the server already ran the op means the retry runs it twice, double-firing command side effects and duplicating a write chunk mid-file (silent binary corruption on multi-chunk writes). exec is not idempotent, so it must not be auto-retried. Reverts to the boxlite/e2b behavior: a transient error surfaces to the caller (returned as text by execute_command, raised by the file ops); a terminal session error still evicts the sandbox so the next acquire rebuilds it. Verified live end-to-end across 31 edge cases (empty/binary/unicode/chunk-boundary files, shell-metachar content, error paths, list/glob/grep, warm-pool reclaim, concurrency). * fix(sandbox): address Tenki provider review feedback - Use Tenki's native sandbox.fs API for all file transport (read_text, read_bytes, write_stream, mkdir) instead of cat/chunked-base64 over shell. Uploads stream in 1 MiB frames; append is read-modify-write because the write stream has no append mode (same approach as community/e2b_sandbox). - download_file streams via fs.read_stream and enforces the 100 MB cap on bytes actually received, closing the TOCTOU window between the old wc -c size probe and the read. - list_dir/glob/grep report paths back under /mnt/user-data instead of the sandbox-internal home dir, so results feed straight into the file APIs. - Create with wait=False and await wait_ready() here: create(wait=True) raises with the session handle still inside the SDK, leaking a running microVM this provider could never terminate. - Configure the sandbox lifetime (max_duration, default 4h) and expose sticky; without it Tenki reaps a reused thread's sandbox after ~30 min. - close() terminates before marking the adapter closed and re-raises real failures, so a failed termination stays retryable instead of silently leaking a billed microVM; an already-gone session still counts as closed. - Bump the optional extra to tenki-sandbox>=0.4.0 and commit backend/uv.lock. * fix(sandbox): scope tenki grep() glob filter to its directory prefix Mirrors #4168, which fixed the same defect in the E2B provider. The tenki adapter reduced a directory-scoped pattern like "src/*.js" to its basename before filtering, so the search silently broadened to every matching-extension file in the tree. Post-filter grep's hits through path_matches() against the path relative to the search root, the same way glob() already does, so both agree on what a directory-scoped pattern means. * fix(sandbox): address Tenki provider review — eviction, id width, write lock, grep -H Four fixes from the upstream review: download_file no longer swallows terminal transport errors. The broad `except OSError: raise` re-raised ConnectionError/BrokenPipeError/EOFError (all OSError subclasses that _is_terminal_failure treats as terminal) before _note_failure ran, so a session that died mid-download was never evicted. Only our own EFBIG size-cap now passes through without eviction. Sandbox id widened from 32 to 64 bits (`[:8]` to `[:16]`), matching community/e2b_sandbox. The warm pool is keyed by this id with no full-seed fallback, so a collision could let one user reclaim another's parked sandbox on a multi-tenant gateway. _fs_op now holds the lock across the op, not just the fs lookup, so concurrent calls on the same sandbox serialise over the SDK's shared connection. The eviction callback runs after the lock is released to avoid a lock-order deadlock with the provider. The append read-modify-write is serialised by a dedicated _write_lock so two concurrent appends can't clobber each other. grep passes -H so a search whose path resolves to a single file still prints the filename; without it the file:line:text unpack dropped every match. * fix(sandbox): address Tenki provider review round 2 - validate config `environment` at load time (_validate_extra_env) so a bad key fails fast instead of surfacing as an SDK error mid-command - document the deliberate lock decision in download_file: the instance lock is dropped before streaming so a 100 MB download can't block every other tool; terminal transport errors still evict via _note_failure - tighten the terminal-error comment to note ConnectionError/BrokenPipeError/ EOFError are also treated terminal via isinstance - document TenkiSandboxProvider in backend/AGENTS.md (provider detail, warm-pool destroy hook, community provider list) - add a commented Tenki block to config.example.yaml for parity with AIO/BoxLite - tests: config env validation, grep -F/case-sensitive flags, glob include_dirs, list_dir max_depth, bootstrap-failure warning branch * fix(sandbox): make Tenki bootstrap non-interactive and time-bounded The create-time bootstrap runs under the per-scope acquire lock, so a hang would stall acquire for that scope indefinitely: - use `sudo -n` so a password-requiring sudoers entry fails fast (swallowed by the existing `|| true`) instead of blocking on a tty password prompt - pass a timeout to the bootstrap `remote.exec` so any other stall drops to the existing warning path rather than wedging acquire Best-effort by design; the file APIs still work via the home remap on failure. * test(sandbox): pin Tenki bootstrap timeout to its actual value Assert bootstrap["timeout"] == _BOOTSTRAP_TIMEOUT instead of `is not None`, so a regression to timeout=0 (treated as no timeout by some SDKs) or an unrelated value is caught rather than passing a weaker non-None check. --------- Co-authored-by: Willem Jiang <willem.jiang@gmail.com> |

feat(checkpoint): dual-mode checkpoint storage with LangGraph DeltaChannel (#4292)
* feat(checkpoint): dual-mode checkpoint storage with LangGraph DeltaChannel
Add a restart-required database.checkpoint_channel_mode ("full" default,
"delta") that stores the messages channel via LangGraph 1.2 DeltaChannel,
cutting checkpoint storage from O(n^2) to O(n) for append-only history.
Existing full checkpoints seed delta state transparently; no data migration.
- config: mode schema + freeze-on-first-use with
CheckpointModeReconfigurationError; mode marker persisted in checkpoint
metadata; unsafe delta->full downgrade rejected fail-closed with
CheckpointModeMismatchError (run-level error, failed state read)
- state: delta message state schema; CheckpointStateAccessor centralizes
materialized reads for all consumers (threads API, branches,
regeneration, compaction, state updates, memory, goal workers)
- runtime: raw writers (run durations, interrupted title, thread goal)
parent their checkpoints to the checkpoint they derive from, preserving
delta ancestry; rollback forks the pre-run lineage through a state
mutation graph with Overwrite restores; InMemorySaver delta-history
override delegates to the base walk (fixes dropped first write after
migration, also present upstream)
- tests: conformance suite over {memory, sqlite, postgres} covering
migration replay, stable message IDs, storage shape and writer
preservation; conftest fixture isolates the frozen mode between tests;
stale config fakes refreshed
- ci: backend unit tests gain a postgres service
* fix(checkpoint): close materialization gaps in goal flow, guard public factory
- Route goal-continuation message reads through CheckpointStateAccessor:
raw channel_values reads see the delta sentinel in delta mode, which
disabled goal continuation (stand_down=no_durable_end_of_turn) after
durable assistant turns. Raw tuples remain for tuple-only metadata
(checkpoint id, pending_writes).
- Reject checkpoint_channel_mode='delta' + checkpointer in
create_deerflow_agent at construction: factory-built persisted graphs
bypass mode-marker injection and the fail-closed gate, reproducing
silent mixed-mode state loss. Delta without persistence stays allowed.
- Import the postgres saver lazily (pytest.importorskip in the fixture)
so the documented default install collects the suite; add a CI job
running pytest --collect-only on uv sync --group dev without extras.
- Fix test_checkpointer fallback test to patch get_app_config at its
use site (provider module), making it deterministic when a local
config.yaml selects a persistent backend.
* fix(gateway): preserve extension-owned channels in state mutations, bump config version
- build_state_mutation_graph / build_checkpoint_state_mutation_accessor
accept an explicit state_schema; branch and POST /state now compile the
mutation graph from the thread's effective schema
(graph_state_schema on the assistant graph). The base-ThreadState
fallback silently discarded channels contributed by custom
AgentMiddleware.state_schema on branch (data loss) and returned a
false-success 200 on POST /state.
- POST /state validates values keys against the mutation graph's
channels and rejects unknown fields with 422 instead of ignoring
them; reducer detection covers extension channels
(BinaryOperatorAggregate or DeltaChannel) so Overwrite replace
semantics work for middleware reducers in both modes.
- Endpoint regression: custom AgentMiddleware.state_schema value
survives branch, updates through POST /state, and an unknown field
receives 422.
- config_version 26 -> 27 for the new database.checkpoint_channel_mode
(example, Helm chart values + README, support-bundle fixture), so
existing installs get the outdated-config warning and
make config-upgrade merges the field; covered by a test driving the
real example file and the real config-upgrade script.
* fix(gateway): resolve assistant schema via one boundary, copy branch reducer values with Overwrite
GET /threads/{id}/state now resolves the thread's assistant_id through a
single reusable boundary (thread metadata -> assistant_id -> effective
graph), so channels contributed by a custom AgentMiddleware.state_schema
are materialized instead of dropped by the default lead schema. POST
/state uses the same boundary instead of resolving the schema ad hoc.
Branch writes wrap every copied reducer channel in Overwrite (derived
from the effective mutation graph: BinaryOperatorAggregate + DeltaChannel),
not just messages, so already-aggregated values are never re-merged.
Regression tests use a real AgentMiddleware.state_schema with a
non-identity reducer in both full and delta modes: GET /state returns the
extension value, POST /state replaces it, branch preserves it
byte-for-byte; the unknown-field 422 is a separate assertion.
* refactor(checkpoint): collapse read-path round-trips and ship dual-mode parity tests
Address review round 4 on PR #4292:
- Push ahistory/history limit through Pregel into checkpointer.alist
(SQL LIMIT) instead of materializing all rows and breaking in Python
- Fold the read-side mode-compat gate onto the returned snapshot's
metadata; only writes keep the pre-write tuple fetch (fail-closed)
- Cache factory-built accessor graphs per (assistant_id, mode) with
factory-identity revalidation; state reads no longer build a lead
agent per request
- get_thread: one snapshot fetch + one raw pending_writes fetch on the
resolved checkpoint (post-checkpoint __error__ writes never surface
in snapshot.tasks; verified empirically)
- DeerFlowClient.get_thread: single checkpointer.list walk collects
pending_writes per checkpoint instead of N get_tuple calls
- InMemorySaver delta-history patch: stand-down when the upstream
override disappears, try/except guard, validated-version warning,
guard tests
- make_lead_agent mode precedence: first freeze is owned by app_config
(client-supplied configurable key ignored); once frozen, injected
key/app_config must match or fail closed
- Rollback: lock in non-message channel restoration via fork
inheritance with a dedicated reducer-channel test
- Add tests/test_threads_checkpoint_mode.py and
tests/test_gateway_checkpoint_mode.py referenced by AGENTS.md and
the PR validation section: lifecycle parity (memory + sqlite),
per-step blob-count storage guard, gateway endpoint parity
Counted-saver tests pin checkpoint round-trips for aget/ahistory so
these regressions cannot silently return.
* fix(checkpoint): precise mode-mismatch HTTP mapping, gate E2E, and accessor resilience
- threads router: map CheckpointModeMismatchError to 409 (with cause and
thread id) and CheckpointModeReconfigurationError to 503 across all state
endpoints instead of swallowing both into a generic 500
- gate coverage: seed a real delta checkpoint into AsyncSqliteSaver and
assert aget/aupdate/ahistory fail closed; assert 409 at the HTTP boundary
through the real route stack
- rollback: compile the restore mutation graph with the thread's effective
state schema per the build_state_mutation_graph contract
- inheritance contract locks: rollback and manual compaction preserve
middleware-contributed channels via checkpoint fork cloning
- services: revalidate the accessor-graph cache against app_config identity
so config.yaml hot-reloads never serve a stale compiled graph
- services: degrade full-mode state reads to raw checkpointer reads when the
agent factory is unavailable (delta gate still applies; delta mode has no
fallback)
- deps: override websockets==16.0 (langgraph-sdk 0.4.2's <16 pin silently
downgraded 16.0 -> 15.0.1; pin is not grounded in any API incompatibility)
and bump the langchain lower bound to what the lockfile actually resolves
* fix(checkpoint): include anchor checkpoint in degraded history walk + cover get_thread
- _RawCheckpointReadAccessor.ahistory: alist(before=...) is exclusive while
pregel's get_state_history treats config.checkpoint_id as the inclusive
start; fetch the anchor explicitly so both read paths paginate identically
- extend the degraded-path gateway test: GET /thread returns raw values, and
POST /history with before starts at the anchor checkpoint
* fix(gateway): preserve degraded checkpoint timestamps
* fix(gateway): harden degraded checkpoint access
* fix(gateway): resolve assistants for checkpoint reads

feat(browser): add agentic browser control (#4187)
* feat(browser): add agentic browser control
* fix(frontend): format browser view changes
* fix(browser): keep browser optional and isolate sidecar layout
* fix(browser): address PR review security and IME findings
- Nginx: add a browser-stream WebSocket location before the generic
/api/threads regex so Live upgrades instead of downgrading to HTTP
(both nginx.conf and nginx.local.conf).
- Ownership: require an existing owned thread for the WS stream and REST
navigate, and tear down the browser session on thread deletion so a
later caller cannot reuse a retained page/cookies by guessing the id.
- SSRF: enforce the URL policy at the browser request boundary via a
context-level route guard covering redirects, popups, iframes, and
subresources (skipped for CDP-attached Chrome).
- IME: skip key forwarding while a composition is active so confirming a
CJK candidate with Enter no longer submits the remote page form.
Adds regression tests for the request guard, session teardown on delete,
and the composing-Enter key decision.
* fix(frontend): smooth streaming in long tool threads
* Revert "fix(frontend): smooth streaming in long tool threads"
This reverts commit f0462516eabe77f138d4027ea1c714fb226683cf.
* fix(browser): address review security and lifecycle findings
- Reject cross-origin WebSocket upgrades on the live browser stream
(Origin allow-list reuse of CORS/same-origin helpers) to close a
WS-CSRF hole, and fail closed when the ownership store is absent.
- Warn when a CDP-attached session runs with the SSRF request guard
off, and drop the unreachable CDP screencast teardown dead code.
- Read browser session launch config from a single canonical source
(browser_navigate) so it is deterministic regardless of call order.
- Bound per-thread Chromium accumulation with idle-timeout eviction
and an LRU max-sessions cap.
- Reset the Live reconnect counter on a successful open so the stream
can't permanently stall after the cumulative attempt cap.
* fix(frontend): reduce long tool thread render stalls
Reuse stable historical message groups during streaming, defer heavy Markdown and browser previews, and lazy-decode message images.
* fix(browser): keep live control responsive during continuous input
Why: Manual browser control felt laggy — a physical click ran the remote
Playwright click three times and each non-move input synchronously awaited a
JPEG screenshot, so events queued behind capture (queue wait up to ~237ms).
The first async attempt used a trailing-edge debounce, which froze the visible
page until a wheel/keyboard gesture stopped ("scroll finishes, then it jumps").
What:
- Frontend forwards one `click` per physical click instead of also emitting
`down`/`up`, so the remote page is not clicked twice per gesture.
- Backend detaches live-frame capture from input dispatch: non-move actions
start a rate-limited background refresh loop (leading frame + bounded cadence)
that keeps emitting frames while input continues and never blocks dispatch.
- Add regression tests: input dispatch no longer awaits the screenshot, rapid
inputs coalesce, and continuous input keeps refreshing before it stops.
Scenarios: Verified in the live Browser panel — a single click completes in
~57ms (was blocked behind a 171ms capture), and a 1.14s sustained wheel gesture
renders ~7 frames throughout the scroll instead of one frame after it ends.
* fix(browser): harden worker and session lifecycle
* fix(browser): address latest review feedback
* fix(frontend): preserve optimistic new-chat message
* test(e2e): preserve mocked message run ids
* fix(browser): address capability review feedback

feat(trace): add agent observability with Monocle (#4024)
* Add Monocle tracing Enable Monocle (OpenTelemetry tracing for LLM apps) with one setup call plus the monocle_apptrace dependency. setup_monocle_telemetry auto-instruments the frameworks already in use and writes traces to .monocle/. Additive; no changes to application logic. * Config-gate Monocle telemetry in the Gateway lifespan Addresses review on #4024: moves setup_monocle_telemetry out of agents/__init__ import time into the Gateway lifespan, gated by MonocleTracingConfig (MONOCLE_TRACING env, default off). Warns on the Langfuse/global-OTel-provider conflict and relies on monocle_apptrace's own duplicate-setup guard and existing-provider attach. Pins monocle_apptrace>=0.8.8 (+ uv.lock), adds .monocle/ to .gitignore, adds tests (default-off / toggle-on / no import-time setup), and documents exporters, Okahu, and the VS Code viewer in README, config.example.yaml, and backend/AGENTS.md. * Clarify Monocle/Langfuse single-provider guidance Make the docstring, warning, and AGENTS.md consistent with the README: only one library can own the global OpenTelemetry provider; Monocle initializes at startup before Langfuse's per-run handler, so enabling both drops Langfuse's spans — enable one OTel tracer (LangSmith, a callback, coexists fine). * Address review: optional extra, exporter validation, off-box warning, tests Responds to the second review round. - Make monocle_apptrace an optional extra (deerflow-harness[monocle], re-exposed as deer-flow[monocle]) following the boxlite/tui precedent, so a default install no longer pulls the OpenTelemetry stack. It stays pinned in the dev group for the tracing tests, and enabling MONOCLE_TRACING without the extra raises a clear install error. - Warn loudly at startup whenever any exporter other than `file` is configured, since those move prompts, tool inputs/outputs, and completions beyond the local .monocle/ directory. - Validate MONOCLE_EXPORTERS against the known exporter names and require OKAHU_API_KEY when okahu is selected, mirroring the Langfuse pattern. Validation runs from Monocle's own init (not validate_enabled) so a config typo can never fail agent runs; errors surface at Gateway startup instead. - Grow the tests from 5 to 13: caplog coverage for the Langfuse-conflict and off-box warnings, exporter validation cases, a stronger import-time regression that asserts the global TracerProvider is not replaced, and a subprocess double-invoke test exercising the real check_duplicate_setup. - Docs: config.example.yaml block retitled to a dedicated tracing header; README documents the [monocle] install and scopes tracing to Gateway runs. * docs: align Monocle README section with the other tracing providers Lead with what Monocle is and captures, drop the install step (the dev group already ships monocle_apptrace via uv sync; unusual installs get the RuntimeError), and point the missing-package error at the repo-native command (uv sync --extra monocle / deerflow-harness[monocle]). Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Address review: verified Langfuse coexistence, lifespan test, scope docs Responds to the third review round. The Langfuse conflict claim was wrong, verified empirically against langfuse 4.5.1 in both init orders: whichever library initializes second reuses the existing global TracerProvider and attaches its own span processor, so neither side loses spans. Dropped the warning and its tests, corrected the README, AGENTS.md, and config.example.yaml statements, and pinned the verified behavior with test_coexists_with_langfuse (real monocle + real langfuse in a subprocess, no mocks). One honest caveat documented: both processors see all spans, so Monocle's exporters also capture Langfuse's spans when both are enabled. Also from the review: - Document the Gateway-only scope in AGENTS.md: the lifespan is the sole call site, so the embedded DeerFlowClient and TUI are not instrumented; embedded users call setup_monocle_tracing_if_enabled() themselves. - Add test_gateway_lifespan_initializes_monocle pinning the lifespan wiring. - Comment why MonocleTracingConfig.is_configured is intentionally coarser than LangSmith/Langfuse (composite validation lives in validate() at startup). - Note that monocle_exporters_list takes the comma-separated string as-is. - Module-level importorskip("monocle_apptrace") so minimal installs collect the test module cleanly. * docs: reword Monocle intro sentence * fix(tests): run the import-time regression in a subprocess test_no_import_time_setup deleted deerflow.agents* from sys.modules and re-imported to force __init__ to re-execute. The re-import creates new module objects, and restoring the old sys.modules entries afterwards leaves the parent package's attribute bindings pointing at the new ones, so any later test that resolves a deerflow.agents.* dotted path (monkeypatch.setattr in test_summarization_middleware, test_thread_data_middleware, and others) failed with "module 'deerflow.agents' has no attribute ...". Run the check in a subprocess instead: the import is genuinely fresh, the assertion is stronger (the provider must still be the SDK-less proxy, proving nothing was installed at any point), and no module identity leaks into the rest of the suite. * Address review: console warning scope, embedded hint, honest naming, doc alignment Responds to the post-approval review round: - Scope the off-box exporter warning to the remote exporters (okahu, s3, blob, gcs): console writes to local stdout and no longer trips it. config.example.yaml's data-handling note now distinguishes file / console / remote likewise. - Rename MonocleTracingConfig.is_configured to is_enabled so the boolean reads as what it checks; the exporter-dependent credential check stays in validate(), run at Gateway startup. - Hint on the embedded path: build_tracing_callbacks() logs a debug line when MONOCLE_TRACING is set but setup never ran in this process, so embedded DeerFlowClient/TUI users are not left with silent no-op tracing. Backed by a process-global setup flag. - Re-export setup_monocle_tracing_if_enabled from deerflow.tracing, matching the package convention. - Note the deliberate fail-open-at-startup contrast with LangSmith/Langfuse in the lifespan, and the OTel SDK-internals dependency in the coexistence test. - Test hygiene: clear MONOCLE_* env in the tracing config/factory fixtures; reset the setup flag in the monocle test fixture; reword the README Langfuse-spans claim as the shared-provider inference it is. - Document that .monocle/ trace files are never rotated or cleaned up. * fix(tests): pin the factory logger level in the embedded-hint tests configure_logging() from earlier tests in the full suite pins an explicit INFO level on the logger hierarchy, so a root-level caplog.at_level(DEBUG) never sees the factory's debug hint. Scope caplog to deerflow.tracing.factory so the test is independent of suite ordering. * Address review: co-export disclosure, lifespan failure test, exporter parse dedup - Off-box warning now notes that Langfuse's spans are exported too when both providers are enabled and share the global OTel provider; pinned both ways by tests. - Pin the lifespan fail-open contract: a raising Monocle setup is logged and the Gateway keeps serving (pragma dropped now that the path is exercised). README notes a config error is reported at startup and tracing stays off until restart. - Hoist exporter parsing into MonocleTracingConfig.exporter_list so validate() and the off-box warning cannot diverge, and note the upstream coupling on the exporter allow-list. - Reduce config.example.yaml's Monocle block to a pointer; the capture, retention, and data-handling detail lives in README's Monocle section. --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Willem Jiang <willem.jiang@gmail.com> |

feat(sandbox): warm pool for boxlite (#3951)
* feat: add boxlite SDK as harness dependency * test: add fake SimpleBox fixtures for BoxLite warm pool tests * feat: add deterministic sandbox_id and warm pool fields to BoxliteProvider * feat: pass deterministic sandbox_id to SimpleBox name * feat: warm pool lifecycle — park on release, reclaim on acquire - release(): parks VMs in _warm_pool with timestamp instead of closing - _reclaim_warm_pool(): health checks warm boxes via echo ok - acquire(): tries warm pool reclaim before creating new boxes - Deterministic sandbox_id ensures thread isolation * feat(boxlite): idle reaper, replica enforcement, warm-pool shutdown/reset - Task 6: idle reaper daemon thread destroys expired warm-pool boxes - Task 7: replica enforcement evicts oldest warm-pool box when at capacity - Task 8: shutdown() stops idle checker first, destroys all boxes (active+warm); reset() clears warm pool Tests: 17 passed (4 new: idle reaper, replica enforcement, shutdown, reset) * fix(boxlite): harden warm pool lifecycle races * docs(boxlite): document warm pool configuration * fix(sandbox): log warning when evicting oldest warm box is failed Co-authored-by: Copilot Autofix powered by AI <175728472+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(boxlite): stop provider lifecycle on reset * fix(boxlite): make runtime an optional dependency * test(boxlite): remove unused warm pool lookup * docs(boxlite): clarify optional runtime support * refactor: extract shared WarmPoolLifecycleMixin for sandbox warm-pool lifecycle Introduce deerflow.community.warm_pool_lifecycle.WarmPoolLifecycleMixin owning idle-checker loop, warm-pool expiry, oldest-warm eviction, replica counting, and soft-cap logging. Move AioSandboxProvider and BoxliteProvider onto the mixin; keep AIO active-idle cleanup local and delegate only warm-pool expiry to the shared helper. BoxliteProvider also gains: - Prefixed box names (deer-flow-boxlite-*) for startup orphan reconciliation - _reconcile_orphans() adopting surviving boxes from a prior process - Pinned timeout forwarding: command timeout now bounds both BoxLite SDK exec(timeout=...) and the loop bridge .result(timeout) - reset() reworked as lightweight registry clear (boxes -> warm pool, no close, no idle-reaper stop, no loop close) so reset_sandbox_provider() config switches are safe; shutdown() remains the teardown path Backward-compatible: AIO DEFAULT_IDLE_TIMEOUT/DEFAULT_REPLICAS/ IDLE_CHECK_INTERVAL stay importable; Boxlite IDLE_CHECK_INTERVAL stays monkeypatchable. --------- Co-authored-by: Copilot Autofix powered by AI <175728472+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat: add scheduled tasks MVP (#3898)
* feat: add scheduled tasks MVP
* fix: harden scheduled task execution semantics
* feat(scheduled-tasks): preset-driven schedule form with timezone and live preview
Replace the raw cron input with a preset Select (hourly/daily/weekly/monthly/custom)
plus structured inputs (time picker, weekday toggles, day-of-month), datetime-local
for one-time tasks, a timezone selector defaulting to the browser timezone, and a
live human-readable preview. Reuses one ScheduledTaskScheduleInput for create and
edit; backend contract unchanged; zero new deps (pure Intl + DST-safe offset helpers).
* feat(scheduled-tasks): full-page i18n + recipe templates + E2E locale pin
Localize the rest of the scheduled-tasks page (filters, detail pane, actions,
edit form, run list, enum values) via t.scheduledTasks.* in en/zh. Add four
built-in recipe templates (GitHub Trending, news digest, issue triage, weekly
report) exposed as a chip row that pre-fills title + prompt + schedule. Pin
Playwright locale to en-US so E2E selectors stay stable against i18n. No backend
change, no new deps.
* fix(scheduled-tasks): idempotent 0003 migration, update head constants, future-date once test
Merge with main surfaced three CI failures:
- 0003_scheduled_tasks create_table collided with legacy test seeds that
build from full metadata; guard with inspector.has_table so the revision
no-ops when the table already exists (0004/0005 are already idempotent via
_helpers.py).
- persistence bootstrap concurrency/regression tests pinned HEAD to main's
0002_runs_token_usage; bump to the new head 0005_scheduled_task_thread_nullable.
- once-task router test used a fixed past run_at and tripped the
must-be-in-the-future validation; use a future date.
* address review: ok-check, 502 for trigger failure, mock fields, migration filename, doc fences
- fetchThreadScheduledTasks now checks response.ok like the other fetchers.
- trigger endpoint returns 502 (not 409) when dispatch fails outright, so
clients can distinguish a real conflict from a server-side failure.
- E2E mock normalizes scheduled-task objects with context_mode/last_thread_id
and nullable thread_id, matching the backend contract the UI renders against.
- Rename 0002_scheduled_tasks.py -> 0003_scheduled_tasks.py to match its
revision id (file was renamed in spirit already; filename now follows).
- CONFIGURATION.md: close the Tool Groups yaml fence and drop the stray fence
after the Scheduler notes so the sections render correctly.
* fix(scheduled-tasks): harden lease, poller, config, and frontend UX after review
* fix(scheduled-tasks): harden run lifecycle, overlap skip, non_interactive gating, and DST conversion after review
- defer a once task's terminal status to the run-completion hook; the task
stays running until the real outcome, and a startup sweep cancels once
tasks orphaned by a crash (launch-time 'completed' could stick forever)
- record interrupted runs as a distinct 'interrupted' run status with a
readable message; an interrupted once task ends 'cancelled', not 'failed'
- enforce overlap_policy=skip for fresh_thread_per_run via an active-run
pre-check (same-thread ConflictError can never fire across fresh threads)
- protect terminal run statuses from the late launch-path 'running' write
- honor context.non_interactive only for internally-authenticated callers;
arbitrary clients can no longer strip ask_clarification
- fix DST-stale timezone offset in zonedLocalToUtcIso by re-deriving the
offset at the resolved instant (once tasks fired an hour late around
spring-forward and the create->edit round-trip diverged)
- drop dead ScheduledTaskRunRepository.update_by_run_id; share one Gateway
API error helper between channels and scheduled-tasks frontends
* fix(scheduled-tasks): close review round-3 gaps in guards, concurrency, and API ergonomics
- scrub internal-only context keys (non_interactive) from the assembled run
config for non-internal callers: gating body.context alone left the same
key smuggle-able through the free-form body.config copied verbatim by
build_run_config
- guard update_after_launch with protect_terminal so the launch bookkeeping
write cannot clobber a once task already finalized by a fast-failing run's
completion hook (parent-row sibling of the run-row guard)
- reject a manual trigger while the task has an active run (409) instead of
launching a duplicate concurrent run on fresh_thread_per_run
- re-arm a terminal once task to enabled when PATCH pushes run_at into the
future; previously the endpoint returned 200 with a next_run_at that could
never be claimed
- make max_concurrent_runs a real global cap: each poll claims only into the
remaining budget of active (queued/running) scheduled runs
- paginate GET /scheduled-tasks/{id}/runs (limit<=200, offset) and push the
thread filter of /threads/{id}/scheduled-tasks into SQL
- stamp context.user_id on scheduler-launched runs, matching IM channels, so
user-scoped guardrail providers see the owning user

feat(gateway): add redis stream bridge (#3191)
* feat: add redis stream bridge * Potential fix for pull request finding Co-authored-by: Copilot Autofix powered by AI <175728472+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(gateway): address redis stream bridge review Redis was imported eagerly through deerflow.runtime and declared as a hard dependency, which made memory-only installs load redis.asyncio at startup and left the lazy factory import ineffective. Move redis behind an optional extra, remove the public eager re-export, and keep make_stream_bridge as the only runtime import path with an actionable install hint when the extra is missing. Because Docker deployments now default the stream bridge to Redis via DEER_FLOW_STREAM_BRIDGE_REDIS_URL, install the redis extra explicitly in Docker/dev container flows and teach the local uv-extra detector to infer redis from both stream_bridge.type and the Redis URL env var. This keeps Docker working while preserving slim non-Docker installs. Harden the Redis bridge by batching XREAD replay, replacing brittle ResponseError string matching with a single fallback to 0-0 for malformed Last-Event-ID values, documenting connection/retention/fail-hard behavior, and adding fake plus opt-in real Redis coverage for XADD/XREAD, replay, invalid IDs, and MAXLEN trimming. * fix(config): bump config version for stream bridge * fix redis stream bridge terminal handling * fix: repair uv.lock, format redis.py, and align Dockerfile extras test The uv.lock file was missing a closing bracket for the redis extras section, redis.py had a formatting issue caught by ruff, and the Dockerfile extras test did not account for the hardcoded --extra redis flag. feat(tui): Hermes-like terminal workbench (deerflow) backed by DeerFlowClient (#3760)
* feat(tui): add Hermes-like terminal workbench backed by DeerFlowClient Implements the `deerflow` TUI from RFC #3540: a terminal-native, embedded workbench over the existing harness (no Gateway/frontend/nginx/Docker), built Python-native with Textual and learning UX patterns from tao-pi. Architecture — every layer except the Textual app is pure and unit-tested: - view_state.py: ViewState + reduce(state, action), the testable heart - runtime.py: StreamEvent -> reducer actions (pure translate + threaded driver) - message_format / command_registry / input_history / render / theme: pure - app.py: Textual App; runs the sync DeerFlowClient.stream() on a worker thread and marshals actions back to the UI thread. Slash command palette, model and thread modal pickers, ↑/↓ history, Ctrl+C interrupt, TTY-aware fallback. - cli.py: pure launch-mode planning + headless --print/--json + `deerflow` console script (textual is an optional [tui] extra; degrades to headless help) Web UI visibility (the RFC's key decision): persistence.py writes a threads_meta row under the local default user into the same DB the Gateway reads, so terminal sessions appear in the Web UI sidebar without running the Gateway. Best-effort, no-op on the memory backend; all DB work on one long-lived background loop. Tests: 95 TUI tests — pure layers via pytest, app/palette/overlays via Textual's pilot harness with a fake session, and a threads_meta read/write round-trip. ruff clean; respects the harness->app import boundary. Docs: backend/docs/TUI.md plus CLAUDE.md/README updates and preview screenshots. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(tui): de-duplicate streamed assistant text and tool cards; keep Tab in composer Self-test surfaced three issues, all root-caused to consuming non-strict streaming from DeerFlowClient (proven by the client's own test_dedup_requires_messages_before_values_invariant, which shows the client can re-emit a message id's full content twice): - Assistant text was doubled (e.g. "answer answer") because the reducer blindly concatenated same-id deltas. Now merges by content: a re-send or cumulative snapshot replaces; only genuine increments append. - Tool activity showed duplicate and empty "gear" cards from partial/re-emitted tool-call chunks. ToolStarted now de-dupes by tool_call_id, drops id-less noise chunks, and fills the name on a later chunk; a tool result with no prior card still surfaces as a completed card. - Tab moved focus off the composer to the scroll region (felt like broken cursor logic). Tab is now consumed by the composer (completes a command when the palette is open, no-op otherwise). Adds reducer tests for each case plus a Tab-focus test; 102 TUI tests pass. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(tui): make Esc interrupt an active run (matches the status hint) The status line advertised "esc interrupt" but Esc was only wired to close the slash palette, so it did nothing during a run. Esc now: closes the palette when open, interrupts the active run when streaming, and is a no-op when idle. The interrupt logic is shared with Ctrl+C via _interrupt_run(). Adds a regression test. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(tui): stop prior answers duplicating on threads with history On a thread with history, DeerFlowClient re-emits every prior message on each new turn (its streamed_ids dedup is per-stream-call), and a re-emitted older message can arrive after a newer message has already started. The reducer only matched the *most recent* assistant row by id and otherwise appended, so each re-emitted older answer was duplicated verbatim at the end of the transcript. Match an assistant row by id anywhere in the transcript and merge in place. Tool cards already de-dupe by call id globally, so they were unaffected. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(tui): correct CJK cursor drift in the composer Confirmed a Textual Input bug (latest 8.2.7): Input._cursor_offset adds an unconditional +1 at the end of the value, overshooting by one cell after double-width (CJK) characters. That misplaces the hardware/IME cursor — the drift seen when typing Chinese in iTerm2 (the on-screen block cursor, drawn separately in render_line, is fine; English doesn't use an IME so it looks correct). Reproduced with a bare Input, so it's upstream, not our layout. Add ComposerInput(Input) overriding _cursor_offset to the true cell position and use it for the composer. Numeric tests pin the CJK end/mid and ASCII cases. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * feat(tui): render finalized assistant messages as Markdown The transcript showed raw Markdown (literal **bold**, ## headings, - lists, links). Finalized assistant messages now render as Rich Markdown — headings, bold/italic, lists, inline code + code blocks, blockquotes, horizontal rules and links — with the ● speaker marker aligned to the top of the body. The actively-streaming message stays plain text so partial Markdown doesn't reflow/jump, then snaps to its rendered form when the run ends. Transcript re-renders are coalesced on a ~60ms timer (dirty flag) so per-token Markdown re-parsing stays smooth on long threads. Tests cover both the rendered and the streaming-plain paths. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * style(tui): apply ruff format CI lint runs `ruff format --check` via uvx (latest ruff); apply the formatter so the lint-backend job passes. No behavior change. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore(tui): address code-quality review comments From github-code-quality[bot] on #3760: - runtime.py: give the `_ClientLike` Protocol method a docstring body instead of a bare `...` (flagged as a no-effect statement), matching the harness convention for Protocol stubs (e.g. SafetyTerminationDetector). - test_tui_cli_main.py: drop the unnecessary `lambda: _FakeSession()` wrappers in monkeypatch.setattr; pass `_FakeSession` directly (same behavior). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(tui): keep history Markdown-rendered when a follow-up run starts Previously the transcript rendered "the last assistant row" as plain text while streaming. But when a follow-up turn starts, the last assistant row is the *previous, finalized* answer until the new message begins — and the client re-emits prior messages early in the turn — so sending a follow-up reverted the previous answer from rendered Markdown back to raw text. Track the actively-streaming message id in ViewState instead: it's reset on RunStarted, set only when an AssistantDelta actually adds new content (history re-emits are no-ops and don't mark it), and cleared on RunEnded. The renderer keeps only that one message plain; all history stays Markdown. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * docs(readme): add Terminal Workbench (TUI) section to root README Mention the new `deerflow` TUI alongside the Embedded Python Client in the root README.md and README_zh.md (install, launch/headless commands, feature summary, Web UI visibility), with a ToC entry and a preview screenshot. Links to backend/docs/TUI.md for the full guide. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(tui): address review feedback (willem-bd) Ten findings from the TUI code review: 1. /resume was dead-ended — registered + in /help + tested as a builtin, but no dispatch branch. Wired it to thread resolution / the switcher. 2. --resume <title> was forwarded raw into the checkpointer (blank thread). Added Session.resolve_ref() to resolve id-or-title via list_threads; used by --resume and /resume. 3. str(get("id","")) returned "None" for an explicit id:None (truthy), defeating the empty-id guard so unrelated null-id tool calls collapsed into one card. Coerce via a None-safe helper. 4. Headless --print/--json no longer spin up the persistence loop/engine/pool (open_session(persistence=False)). 5. _LoopThread + engine are now closed: Session.close() (dispose engine + stop loop) called from a try/finally around app.run(). 6. --cli --continue (and piped --cli) now run headless instead of erroring. 7. Cancelled runs no longer persist a truncated title (guard on _cancelled). 8. Palette highlight resets to the top when the filter set changes. 9. Dropped the never-populated tools count from the header. 10. Documented the `not row.error` merge guard. Adds regression tests for each; 126 TUI tests pass, ruff check + format clean. feat(community): add GroundRoute web search + fetch engine (#3675)
* feat(groundroute): add GroundRoute community web_search + web_fetch tools
GroundRoute is a meta search layer over six engines (Serper, Brave, Exa,
Tavily, Firecrawl, Perplexity) with price-based routing and failover. This
adds a self-contained community engine module (httpx only, no new required
deps) mirroring community/brave + community/tavily:
- web_search: POST /v1/search, normalize to {title,url,snippet,source_engine}.
- web_fetch: fetch a URL via mode=page.
- unit tests covering normalization, auth, clamping, and graceful errors.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(groundroute): register GroundRoute search + fetch in wizard and config
Add GroundRoute to the setup wizard provider lists (SEARCH_PROVIDERS +
WEB_FETCH_PROVIDERS) and as commented web_search + web_fetch examples in
config.example.yaml, mirroring tavily/serper/brave so SEARCH_API can select it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* style(groundroute): apply repo ruff format (line-length 240)
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* docs(groundroute): add GroundRoute to tools docs and config reference
Adds GroundRoute as a web_search and web_fetch option in the en + zh
tools.mdx pages (new tab alongside Tavily/Brave/Exa/etc.) and documents
GROUNDROUTE_API_KEY in CONFIGURATION.md.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(groundroute): define empty groundroute extra for clean install
The docs install line 'uv add deerflow-harness[groundroute]' (mirroring the
tavily/exa/firecrawl pattern) referenced an undefined extra, which uv accepts
but warns about. GroundRoute needs no extra packages (httpx is a core dep), so
declare an empty 'groundroute' extra in deerflow-harness optional-dependencies
so the documented command resolves without a warning.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(groundroute): per-tool api key + honor caller max_results (review)
Address maintainer review on PR #3675:
- _get_api_key(tool_name): web_fetch now reads the web_fetch config block's key
instead of always web_search, so a flow that pairs GroundRoute fetch with a
different search engine authenticates correctly. Mirrors serper/exa/firecrawl.
- web_search honors a caller-supplied max_results (sentinel default None),
falling back to the configured value only when omitted, so the documented
parameter is no longer silently discarded.
- warn-once is now keyed per tool. Tests cover both fixes (web_fetch key,
agent max_results honored).

fix(deps): bump cryptography constraint to >=48.0.1 to match lockfile (#3666)
Dependabot security update #3620 bumped cryptography to 48.0.1 in uv.lock but left the harness manifest at >=43.0.0, since the dependency lives in the workspace member packages/harness, not backend/pyproject.toml. The drift caused 'uv lock' to keep rewriting the recorded specifier. Align the source constraint with the locked version. |

Frontend connect flow:
- Open the runtime-config dialog only when a provider still needs
credentials; configured providers go straight to the connect flow, so
the binding-code/deep-link path is reachable from the UI again.
- After saving credentials, continue into the connect flow when a user
binding is still required (multi-user mode) instead of stopping at a
"Connected" toast.
- Extract shared provider-state helpers to core/channels/provider-state
and add unit + e2e coverage for the direct-connect and
configure-then-connect paths.
Provider status semantics:
- Report connection_status from the user's newest connection row;
with no binding it is not_connected, except in auth-disabled local
mode where a configured running channel is effectively connected.
Concurrency and event-loop correctness:
- Offload ChannelRuntimeConfigStore construction and writes, channel
service construction, and Slack connection replies to threads; add a
tests/blocking_io/ anchor for the runtime-config handlers.
- Consume binding codes with a conditional UPDATE so a code can only be
used once under concurrent workers; retry upsert_connection as an
update when a concurrent insert wins the unique constraint.
- Serialize ensure_channel_ready per channel so concurrent provider
polls cannot double-start a channel worker.
Config and migration hardening:
- Stop mutating the get_app_config()-cached Telegram provider config;
the runtime store now owns the UI-entered bot username.
- Register channel_connections in STARTUP_ONLY_FIELDS with the
standardized startup-only Field description.
- Match the legacy unsafe-id bucket by recomputing its exact SHA-1 name
so another user's same-prefix bucket can never be migrated.
- Remove the unused Telegram process_webhook_update path and document
src/core/channels in the frontend docs.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Address PR review comments on authz scoping and channel runtime
Security (review feedback from ShenAC-SAC):
- Scope internal-token callers to the connection owner carried in
X-DeerFlow-Owner-User-Id instead of bypassing owner checks outright,
in both require_permission(owner_check=True) and the stateless run
endpoints. Internal callers keep access to their own and
shared/legacy threads, and may claim a default-owned channel thread
for its real owner, but a leaked internal token no longer grants
cross-user thread access.
- Require admin privileges for POST/DELETE /api/channels/{provider}/
runtime-config: runtime credentials and channel workers are
instance-wide shared state (same model as the MCP config API).
Read-only provider listing stays available to all users.
Performance (review feedback from willem-bd):
- Skip the redundant thread channel-metadata PATCH after the first
successful backfill per thread.
- Reuse the per-connection Slack WebClient until its token changes
instead of constructing one per outbound message.
- Reconcile channel readiness for all providers concurrently in
GET /api/channels/providers.
Also resolve the code-quality unused-import flag in the blocking-io
anchor by pre-importing the channel service via importlib.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Fix prettier formatting in provider-state test
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Reconcile UI runtime channel config with config reload on restart
Main now reloads a channel's config.yaml entry on restart_channel()
(#3514, issue #3497). Adapt the user-owned connection flow to coexist:
- configure_channel() restarts with reload_config=False — the caller
just supplied the authoritative config (browser-entered credentials
that are never written to config.yaml), so a file reload must not
clobber it with the stale on-disk entry.
- _load_channel_config() re-applies the UI runtime-store overlay used
at startup, so an operator-triggered restart keeps browser-entered
credentials for channels without a config.yaml entry and does not
resurrect a channel disconnected from the UI.
- Offload the reload's disk IO (config.yaml + runtime store) with
asyncio.to_thread, matching the blocking-IO policy on this branch.

feat(persistence): add unified persistence layer with event store, token tracking, and feedback (#1930)
* feat(persistence): add SQLAlchemy 2.0 async ORM scaffold
Introduce a unified database configuration (DatabaseConfig) that
controls both the LangGraph checkpointer and the DeerFlow application
persistence layer from a single `database:` config section.
New modules:
- deerflow.config.database_config — Pydantic config with memory/sqlite/postgres backends
- deerflow.persistence — async engine lifecycle, DeclarativeBase with to_dict mixin, Alembic skeleton
- deerflow.runtime.runs.store — RunStore ABC + MemoryRunStore implementation
Gateway integration initializes/tears down the persistence engine in
the existing langgraph_runtime() context manager. Legacy checkpointer
config is preserved for backward compatibility.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(persistence): add RunEventStore ABC + MemoryRunEventStore
Phase 2-A prerequisite for event storage: adds the unified run event
stream interface (RunEventStore) with an in-memory implementation,
RunEventsConfig, gateway integration, and comprehensive tests (27 cases).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(persistence): add ORM models, repositories, DB/JSONL event stores, RunJournal, and API endpoints
Phase 2-B: run persistence + event storage + token tracking.
- ORM models: RunRow (with token fields), ThreadMetaRow, RunEventRow
- RunRepository implements RunStore ABC via SQLAlchemy ORM
- ThreadMetaRepository with owner access control
- DbRunEventStore with trace content truncation and cursor pagination
- JsonlRunEventStore with per-run files and seq recovery from disk
- RunJournal (BaseCallbackHandler) captures LLM/tool/lifecycle events,
accumulates token usage by caller type, buffers and flushes to store
- RunManager now accepts optional RunStore for persistent backing
- Worker creates RunJournal, writes human_message, injects callbacks
- Gateway deps use factory functions (RunRepository when DB available)
- New endpoints: messages, run messages, run events, token-usage
- ThreadCreateRequest gains assistant_id field
- 92 tests pass (33 new), zero regressions
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(persistence): add user feedback + follow-up run association
Phase 2-C: feedback and follow-up tracking.
- FeedbackRow ORM model (rating +1/-1, optional message_id, comment)
- FeedbackRepository with CRUD, list_by_run/thread, aggregate stats
- Feedback API endpoints: create, list, stats, delete
- follow_up_to_run_id in RunCreateRequest (explicit or auto-detected
from latest successful run on the thread)
- Worker writes follow_up_to_run_id into human_message event metadata
- Gateway deps: feedback_repo factory + getter
- 17 new tests (14 FeedbackRepository + 3 follow-up association)
- 109 total tests pass, zero regressions
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* test+config: comprehensive Phase 2 test coverage + deprecate checkpointer config
- config.example.yaml: deprecate standalone checkpointer section, activate
unified database:sqlite as default (drives both checkpointer + app data)
- New: test_thread_meta_repo.py (14 tests) — full ThreadMetaRepository coverage
including check_access owner logic, list_by_owner pagination
- Extended test_run_repository.py (+4 tests) — completion preserves fields,
list ordering desc, limit, owner_none returns all
- Extended test_run_journal.py (+8 tests) — on_chain_error, track_tokens=false,
middleware no ai_message, unknown caller tokens, convenience fields,
tool_error, non-summarization custom event
- Extended test_run_event_store.py (+7 tests) — DB batch seq continuity,
make_run_event_store factory (memory/db/jsonl/fallback/unknown)
- Extended test_phase2b_integration.py (+4 tests) — create_or_reject persists,
follow-up metadata, summarization in history, full DB-backed lifecycle
- Fixed DB integration test to use proper fake objects (not MagicMock)
for JSON-serializable metadata
- 157 total Phase 2 tests pass, zero regressions
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* config: move default sqlite_dir to .deer-flow/data
Keep SQLite databases alongside other DeerFlow-managed data
(threads, memory) under the .deer-flow/ directory instead of a
top-level ./data folder.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(persistence): remove UTFJSON, use engine-level json_serializer + datetime.now()
- Replace custom UTFJSON type with standard sqlalchemy.JSON in all ORM
models. Add json_serializer=json.dumps(ensure_ascii=False) to all
create_async_engine calls so non-ASCII text (Chinese etc.) is stored
as-is in both SQLite and Postgres.
- Change ORM datetime defaults from datetime.now(UTC) to datetime.now(),
remove UTC imports.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(gateway): simplify deps.py with getter factory + inline repos
- Replace 6 identical getter functions with _require() factory.
- Inline 3 _make_*_repo() factories into langgraph_runtime(), call
get_session_factory() once instead of 3 times.
- Add thread_meta upsert in start_run (services.py).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(docker): add UV_EXTRAS build arg for optional dependencies
Support installing optional dependency groups (e.g. postgres) at
Docker build time via UV_EXTRAS build arg:
UV_EXTRAS=postgres docker compose build
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(journal): fix flush, token tracking, and consolidate tests
RunJournal fixes:
- _flush_sync: retain events in buffer when no event loop instead of
dropping them; worker's finally block flushes via async flush().
- on_llm_end: add tool_calls filter and caller=="lead_agent" guard for
ai_message events; mark message IDs for dedup with record_llm_usage.
- worker.py: persist completion data (tokens, message count) to RunStore
in finally block.
Model factory:
- Auto-inject stream_usage=True for BaseChatOpenAI subclasses with
custom api_base, so usage_metadata is populated in streaming responses.
Test consolidation:
- Delete test_phase2b_integration.py (redundant with existing tests).
- Move DB-backed lifecycle test into test_run_journal.py.
- Add tests for stream_usage injection in test_model_factory.py.
- Clean up executor/task_tool dead journal references.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(events): widen content type to str|dict in all store backends
Allow event content to be a dict (for structured OpenAI-format messages)
in addition to plain strings. Dict values are JSON-serialized for the DB
backend and deserialized on read; memory and JSONL backends handle dicts
natively. Trace truncation now serializes dicts to JSON before measuring.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(events): use metadata flag instead of heuristic for dict content detection
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(converters): add LangChain-to-OpenAI message format converters
Pure functions langchain_to_openai_message, langchain_to_openai_completion,
langchain_messages_to_openai, and _infer_finish_reason for converting
LangChain BaseMessage objects to OpenAI Chat Completions format, used by
RunJournal for event storage. 15 unit tests added.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(converters): handle empty list content as null, clean up test
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(events): human_message content uses OpenAI user message format
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(events): ai_message uses OpenAI format, add ai_tool_call message event
- ai_message content now uses {"role": "assistant", "content": "..."} format
- New ai_tool_call message event emitted when lead_agent LLM responds with tool_calls
- ai_tool_call uses langchain_to_openai_message converter for consistent format
- Both events include finish_reason in metadata ("stop" or "tool_calls")
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(events): add tool_result message event with OpenAI tool message format
Cache tool_call_id from on_tool_start keyed by run_id as fallback for on_tool_end,
then emit a tool_result message event (role=tool, tool_call_id, content) after each
successful tool completion.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(events): summary content uses OpenAI system message format
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(events): replace llm_start/llm_end with llm_request/llm_response in OpenAI format
Add on_chat_model_start to capture structured prompt messages as llm_request events.
Replace llm_end trace events with llm_response using OpenAI Chat Completions format.
Track llm_call_index to pair request/response events.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(events): add record_middleware method for middleware trace events
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* test(events): add full run sequence integration test for OpenAI content format
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(events): align message events with checkpoint format and add middleware tag injection
- Message events (ai_message, ai_tool_call, tool_result, human_message) now use
BaseMessage.model_dump() format, matching LangGraph checkpoint values.messages
- on_tool_end extracts tool_call_id/name/status from ToolMessage objects
- on_tool_error now emits tool_result message events with error status
- record_middleware uses middleware:{tag} event_type and middleware category
- Summarization custom events use middleware:summarize category
- TitleMiddleware injects middleware:title tag via get_config() inheritance
- SummarizationMiddleware model bound with middleware:summarize tag
- Worker writes human_message using HumanMessage.model_dump()
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(threads): switch search endpoint to threads_meta table and sync title
- POST /api/threads/search now queries threads_meta table directly,
removing the two-phase Store + Checkpointer scan approach
- Add ThreadMetaRepository.search() with metadata/status filters
- Add ThreadMetaRepository.update_display_name() for title sync
- Worker syncs checkpoint title to threads_meta.display_name on run completion
- Map display_name to values.title in search response for API compatibility
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(threads): history endpoint reads messages from event store
- POST /api/threads/{thread_id}/history now combines two data sources:
checkpointer for checkpoint_id, metadata, title, thread_data;
event store for messages (complete history, not truncated by summarization)
- Strip internal LangGraph metadata keys from response
- Remove full channel_values serialization in favor of selective fields
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix: remove duplicate optional-dependencies header in pyproject.toml
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(middleware): pass tagged config to TitleMiddleware ainvoke call
Without the config, the middleware:title tag was not injected,
causing the LLM response to be recorded as a lead_agent ai_message
in run_events.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix: resolve merge conflict in .env.example
Keep both DATABASE_URL (from persistence-scaffold) and WECOM
credentials (from main) after the merge.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(persistence): address review feedback on PR #1851
- Fix naive datetime.now() → datetime.now(UTC) in all ORM models
- Fix seq race condition in DbRunEventStore.put() with FOR UPDATE
and UNIQUE(thread_id, seq) constraint
- Encapsulate _store access in RunManager.update_run_completion()
- Deduplicate _store.put() logic in RunManager via _persist_to_store()
- Add update_run_completion to RunStore ABC + MemoryRunStore
- Wire follow_up_to_run_id through the full create path
- Add error recovery to RunJournal._flush_sync() lost-event scenario
- Add migration note for search_threads breaking change
- Fix test_checkpointer_none_fix mock to set database=None
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* chore: update uv.lock
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(persistence): address 22 review comments from CodeQL, Copilot, and Code Quality
Bug fixes:
- Sanitize log params to prevent log injection (CodeQL)
- Reset threads_meta.status to idle/error when run completes
- Attach messages only to latest checkpoint in /history response
- Write threads_meta on POST /threads so new threads appear in search
Lint fixes:
- Remove unused imports (journal.py, migrations/env.py, test_converters.py)
- Convert lambda to named function (engine.py, Ruff E731)
- Remove unused logger definitions in repos (Ruff F841)
- Add logging to JSONL decode errors and empty except blocks
- Separate assert side-effects in tests (CodeQL)
- Remove unused local variables in tests (Ruff F841)
- Fix max_trace_content truncation to use byte length, not char length
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* style: apply ruff format to persistence and runtime files
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Potential fix for pull request finding 'Statement has no effect'
Co-authored-by: Copilot Autofix powered by AI <223894421+github-code-quality[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* refactor(runtime): introduce RunContext to reduce run_agent parameter bloat
Extract checkpointer, store, event_store, run_events_config, thread_meta_repo,
and follow_up_to_run_id into a frozen RunContext dataclass. Add get_run_context()
in deps.py to build the base context from app.state singletons. start_run() uses
dataclasses.replace() to enrich per-run fields before passing ctx to run_agent.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(gateway): move sanitize_log_param to app/gateway/utils.py
Extract the log-injection sanitizer from routers/threads.py into a shared
utils module and rename to sanitize_log_param (public API). Eliminates the
reverse service → router import in services.py.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* perf: use SQL aggregation for feedback stats and thread token usage
Replace Python-side counting in FeedbackRepository.aggregate_by_run with
a single SELECT COUNT/SUM query. Add RunStore.aggregate_tokens_by_thread
abstract method with SQL GROUP BY implementation in RunRepository and
Python fallback in MemoryRunStore. Simplify the thread_token_usage
endpoint to delegate to the new method, eliminating the limit=10000
truncation risk.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* docs: annotate DbRunEventStore.put() as low-frequency path
Add docstring clarifying that put() opens a per-call transaction with
FOR UPDATE and should only be used for infrequent writes (currently
just the initial human_message event). High-throughput callers should
use put_batch() instead.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(threads): fall back to Store search when ThreadMetaRepository is unavailable
When database.backend=memory (default) or no SQL session factory is
configured, search_threads now queries the LangGraph Store instead of
returning 503. Returns empty list if neither Store nor repo is available.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(persistence): introduce ThreadMetaStore ABC for backend-agnostic thread metadata
Add ThreadMetaStore abstract base class with create/get/search/update/delete
interface. ThreadMetaRepository (SQL) now inherits from it. New
MemoryThreadMetaStore wraps LangGraph BaseStore for memory-mode deployments.
deps.py now always provides a non-None thread_meta_repo, eliminating all
`if thread_meta_repo is not None` guards in services.py, worker.py, and
routers/threads.py. search_threads no longer needs a Store fallback branch.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(history): read messages from checkpointer instead of RunEventStore
The /history endpoint now reads messages directly from the
checkpointer's channel_values (the authoritative source) instead of
querying RunEventStore.list_messages(). The RunEventStore API is
preserved for other consumers.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(persistence): address new Copilot review comments
- feedback.py: validate thread_id/run_id before deleting feedback
- jsonl.py: add path traversal protection with ID validation
- run_repo.py: parse `before` to datetime for PostgreSQL compat
- thread_meta_repo.py: fix pagination when metadata filter is active
- database_config.py: use resolve_path for sqlite_dir consistency
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Implement skill self-evolution and skill_manage flow (#1874)
* chore: ignore .worktrees directory
* Add skill_manage self-evolution flow
* Fix CI regressions for skill_manage
* Address PR review feedback for skill evolution
* fix(skill-evolution): preserve history on delete
* fix(skill-evolution): tighten scanner fallbacks
* docs: add skill_manage e2e evidence screenshot
* fix(skill-manage): avoid blocking fs ops in session runtime

Co-authored-by: Willem Jiang <willem.jiang@gmail.com>
* fix(config): resolve sqlite_dir relative to CWD, not Paths.base_dir
resolve_path() resolves relative to Paths.base_dir (.deer-flow),
which double-nested the path to .deer-flow/.deer-flow/data/app.db.
Use Path.resolve() (CWD-relative) instead.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Feature/feishu receive file (#1608)
* feat(feishu): add channel file materialization hook for inbound messages
- Introduce Channel.receive_file(msg, thread_id) as a base method for file materialization; default is no-op.
- Implement FeishuChannel.receive_file to download files/images from Feishu messages, save to sandbox, and inject virtual paths into msg.text.
- Update ChannelManager to call receive_file for any channel if msg.files is present, enabling downstream model access to user-uploaded files.
- No impact on Slack/Telegram or other channels (they inherit the default no-op).
* style(backend): format code with ruff for lint compliance
- Auto-formatted packages/harness/deerflow/agents/factory.py and tests/test_create_deerflow_agent.py using `ruff format`
- Ensured both files conform to project linting standards
- Fixes CI lint check failures caused by code style issues
* fix(feishu): handle file write operation asynchronously to prevent blocking
* fix(feishu): rename GetMessageResourceRequest to _GetMessageResourceRequest and remove redundant code
* test(feishu): add tests for receive_file method and placeholder replacement
* fix(manager): remove unnecessary type casting for channel retrieval
* fix(feishu): update logging messages to reflect resource handling instead of image
* fix(feishu): sanitize filename by replacing invalid characters in file uploads
* fix(feishu): improve filename sanitization and reorder image key handling in message processing
* fix(feishu): add thread lock to prevent filename conflicts during file downloads
* fix(test): correct bad merge in test_feishu_parser.py
* chore: run ruff and apply formatting cleanup
fix(feishu): preserve rich-text attachment order and improve fallback filename handling
* fix(docker): restore gateway env vars and fix langgraph empty arg issue (#1915)
Two production docker-compose.yaml bugs prevent `make up` from working:
1. Gateway missing DEER_FLOW_CONFIG_PATH and DEER_FLOW_EXTENSIONS_CONFIG_PATH
environment overrides. Added in fb2d99f (#1836) but accidentally reverted
by ca2fb95 (#1847). Without them, gateway reads host paths from .env via
env_file, causing FileNotFoundError inside the container.
2. Langgraph command fails when LANGGRAPH_ALLOW_BLOCKING is unset (default).
Empty $${allow_blocking} inserts a bare space between flags, causing
' --no-reload' to be parsed as unexpected extra argument. Fix by building
args string first and conditionally appending --allow-blocking.

* fix(frontend): resolve invalid HTML nesting and tabnabbing vulnerabilities (#1904)
* fix(frontend): resolve invalid HTML nesting and tabnabbing vulnerabilities
Fix `<button>` inside `<a>` invalid HTML in artifact components and add
missing `noopener,noreferrer` to `window.open` calls to prevent reverse
tabnabbing.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(frontend): address Copilot review on tabnabbing and double-tab-open
Remove redundant parent onClick on web_fetch ChainOfThoughtStep to
prevent opening two tabs on link click, and explicitly null out
window.opener after window.open() for defensive tabnabbing hardening.

* refactor(persistence): organize entities into per-entity directories
Restructure the persistence layer from horizontal "models/ + repositories/"
split into vertical entity-aligned directories. Each entity (thread_meta,
run, feedback) now owns its ORM model, abstract interface (where applicable),
and concrete implementations under a single directory with an aggregating
__init__.py for one-line imports.
Layout:
persistence/thread_meta/{base,model,sql,memory}.py
persistence/run/{model,sql}.py
persistence/feedback/{model,sql}.py
models/__init__.py is kept as a facade so Alembic autogenerate continues to
discover all ORM tables via Base.metadata. RunEventRow remains under
models/run_event.py because its storage implementation lives in
runtime/events/store/db.py and has no matching repository directory.
The repositories/ directory is removed entirely. All call sites in
gateway/deps.py and tests are updated to import from the new entity
packages, e.g.:
from deerflow.persistence.thread_meta import ThreadMetaRepository
from deerflow.persistence.run import RunRepository
from deerflow.persistence.feedback import FeedbackRepository
Full test suite passes (1690 passed, 14 skipped).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(gateway): sync thread rename and delete through ThreadMetaStore
The POST /threads/{id}/state endpoint previously synced title changes
only to the LangGraph Store via _store_upsert. In sqlite mode the search
endpoint reads from the ThreadMetaRepository SQL table, so renames never
appeared in /threads/search until the next agent run completed (worker.py
syncs title from checkpoint to thread_meta in its finally block).
Likewise the DELETE /threads/{id} endpoint cleaned up the filesystem,
Store, and checkpointer but left the threads_meta row orphaned in sqlite,
so deleted threads kept appearing in /threads/search.
Fix both endpoints by routing through the ThreadMetaStore abstraction
which already has the correct sqlite/memory implementations wired up by
deps.py. The rename path now calls update_display_name() and the delete
path calls delete() — both work uniformly across backends.
Verified end-to-end with curl in gateway mode against sqlite backend.
Existing test suite (1690 passed) and focused router/repo tests pass.

* refactor(gateway): route all thread metadata access through ThreadMetaStore
Following the rename/delete bug fix in PR1, migrate the remaining direct
LangGraph Store reads/writes in the threads router and services to the
ThreadMetaStore abstraction so that the sqlite and memory backends behave
identically and the legacy dual-write paths can be removed.
Migrated endpoints (threads.py):
- create_thread: idempotency check + write now use thread_meta_repo.get/create
instead of dual-writing the LangGraph Store and the SQL row.
- get_thread: reads from thread_meta_repo.get; the checkpoint-only fallback
for legacy threads is preserved.
- patch_thread: replaced _store_get/_store_put with thread_meta_repo.update_metadata.
- delete_thread_data: dropped the legacy store.adelete; thread_meta_repo.delete
already covers it.
Removed dead code (services.py):
- _upsert_thread_in_store — redundant with the immediately following
thread_meta_repo.create() call.
- _sync_thread_title_after_run — worker.py's finally block already syncs
the title via thread_meta_repo.update_display_name() after each run.
Removed dead code (threads.py):
- _store_get / _store_put / _store_upsert helpers (no remaining callers).
- THREADS_NS constant.
- get_store import (router no longer touches the LangGraph Store directly).
New abstract method:
- ThreadMetaStore.update_metadata(thread_id, metadata) merges metadata into
the thread's metadata field. Implemented in both ThreadMetaRepository (SQL,
read-modify-write inside one session) and MemoryThreadMetaStore. Three new
unit tests cover merge / empty / nonexistent behaviour.
Net change: -134 lines. Full test suite: 1693 passed, 14 skipped.
Verified end-to-end with curl in gateway mode against sqlite backend
(create / patch / get / rename / search / delete).

feat(community): add Exa search as community tool provider (#1357)
* feat(community): add Exa search as community tool provider Add Exa (exa.ai) as a new community search provider alongside Tavily, Firecrawl, InfoQuest, and Jina AI. Exa is an AI-native search engine with neural, keyword, and auto search types. New files: - community/exa/tools.py: web_search_tool and web_fetch_tool - tests/test_exa_tools.py: 10 unit tests with mocked Exa client Changes: - pyproject.toml: add exa-py dependency - config.example.yaml: add commented-out Exa configuration examples Usage: set `use: deerflow.community.exa.tools:web_search_tool` in config.yaml and provide EXA_API_KEY. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(community): address PR review comments for Exa tools - Make _get_exa_client() accept tool_name param so web_fetch reads its own config - Remove __init__.py to match namespace package pattern of other providers - Add duplicate tool name warning in config.example.yaml - Add regression tests for web_fetch config resolution Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * Update revision in uv.lock to 3 --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.6 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Willem Jiang <willem.jiang@gmail.com> |

feat(uploads): add pymupdf4llm PDF converter with auto-fallback and async offload (#1727)
* feat(uploads): add pymupdf4llm PDF converter with auto-fallback and async offload - Introduce pymupdf4llm as an optional PDF converter with better heading detection and table preservation than MarkItDown - Auto mode: prefer pymupdf4llm when installed; fall back to MarkItDown when output is suspiciously sparse (image-based / scanned PDFs) - Sparsity check uses chars-per-page (< 50 chars/page) rather than an absolute threshold, correctly handling both short and long documents - Large files (> 1 MB) are offloaded to asyncio.to_thread() to avoid blocking the event loop (related: #1569) - Add UploadsConfig with pdf_converter field (auto/pymupdf4llm/markitdown) - Add pymupdf4llm as optional dependency: pip install deerflow-harness[pymupdf] - Add 14 unit tests covering sparsity heuristic, routing logic, and async path * fix(uploads): address Copilot review comments on PDF converter - Fix docstring: MIN_CHARS_PYMUPDF -> _MIN_CHARS_PER_PAGE (typo) - Fix file handle leak: wrap pymupdf.open in try/finally to ensure doc.close() - Fix silent fallback gap: _convert_pdf_with_pymupdf4llm now catches all conversion exceptions (not just ImportError), so encrypted/corrupt PDFs fall back to MarkItDown instead of propagating - Tighten type: pdf_converter field changed from str to Literal[auto|pymupdf4llm|markitdown] - Normalize config value: _get_pdf_converter() strips and lowercases the raw config string, warns and falls back to 'auto' on unknown values |

feat(harness): integration ACP agent tool (#1344)
* refactor: extract shared utils to break harness→app cross-layer imports Move _validate_skill_frontmatter to src/skills/validation.py and CONVERTIBLE_EXTENSIONS + convert_file_to_markdown to src/utils/file_conversion.py. This eliminates the two reverse dependencies from client.py (harness layer) into gateway/routers/ (app layer), preparing for the harness/app package split. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * refactor: split backend/src into harness (deerflow.*) and app (app.*) Physically split the monolithic backend/src/ package into two layers: - **Harness** (`packages/harness/deerflow/`): publishable agent framework package with import prefix `deerflow.*`. Contains agents, sandbox, tools, models, MCP, skills, config, and all core infrastructure. - **App** (`app/`): unpublished application code with import prefix `app.*`. Contains gateway (FastAPI REST API) and channels (IM integrations). Key changes: - Move 13 harness modules to packages/harness/deerflow/ via git mv - Move gateway + channels to app/ via git mv - Rename all imports: src.* → deerflow.* (harness) / app.* (app layer) - Set up uv workspace with deerflow-harness as workspace member - Update langgraph.json, config.example.yaml, all scripts, Docker files - Add build-system (hatchling) to harness pyproject.toml - Add PYTHONPATH=. to gateway startup commands for app.* resolution - Update ruff.toml with known-first-party for import sorting - Update all documentation to reflect new directory structure Boundary rule enforced: harness code never imports from app. All 429 tests pass. Lint clean. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore: add harness→app boundary check test and update docs Add test_harness_boundary.py that scans all Python files in packages/harness/deerflow/ and fails if any `from app.*` or `import app.*` statement is found. This enforces the architectural rule that the harness layer never depends on the app layer. Update CLAUDE.md to document the harness/app split architecture, import conventions, and the boundary enforcement test. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * feat: add config versioning with auto-upgrade on startup When config.example.yaml schema changes, developers' local config.yaml files can silently become outdated. This adds a config_version field and auto-upgrade mechanism so breaking changes (like src.* → deerflow.* renames) are applied automatically before services start. - Add config_version: 1 to config.example.yaml - Add startup version check warning in AppConfig.from_file() - Add scripts/config-upgrade.sh with migration registry for value replacements - Add `make config-upgrade` target - Auto-run config-upgrade in serve.sh and start-daemon.sh before starting services - Add config error hints in service failure messages Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix comments * fix: update src.* import in test_sandbox_tools_security to deerflow.* Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix: handle empty config and search parent dirs for config.example.yaml Address Copilot review comments on PR #1131: - Guard against yaml.safe_load() returning None for empty config files - Search parent directories for config.example.yaml instead of only looking next to config.yaml, fixing detection in common setups Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix: correct skills root path depth and config_version type coercion - loader.py: fix get_skills_root_path() to use 5 parent levels (was 3) after harness split, file lives at packages/harness/deerflow/skills/ so parent×3 resolved to backend/packages/harness/ instead of backend/ - app_config.py: coerce config_version to int() before comparison in _check_config_version() to prevent TypeError when YAML stores value as string (e.g. config_version: "1") - tests: add regression tests for both fixes Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix: update test imports from src.* to deerflow.*/app.* after harness refactor Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * feat(harness): add tool-first ACP agent invocation (#37) * feat(harness): add tool-first ACP agent invocation * build(harness): make ACP dependency required * fix(harness): address ACP review feedback * feat(harness): decouple ACP agent workspace from thread data ACP agents (codex, claude-code) previously used per-thread workspace directories, causing path resolution complexity and coupling task execution to DeerFlow's internal thread data layout. This change: - Replace _resolve_cwd() with a fixed _get_work_dir() that always uses {base_dir}/acp-workspace/, eliminating virtual path translation and thread_id lookups - Introduce /mnt/acp-workspace virtual path for lead agent read-only access to ACP agent output files (same pattern as /mnt/skills) - Add security guards: read-only validation, path traversal prevention, command path allowlisting, and output masking for acp-workspace - Update system prompt and tool description to guide LLM: send self-contained tasks to ACP agents, copy results via /mnt/acp-workspace - Add 11 new security tests for ACP workspace path handling Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * refactor(prompt): inject ACP section only when ACP agents are configured The ACP agent guidance in the system prompt is now conditionally built by _build_acp_section(), which checks get_acp_agents() and returns an empty string when no ACP agents are configured. This avoids polluting the prompt with irrelevant instructions for users who don't use ACP. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix lint * fix(harness): address Copilot review comments on sandbox path handling and ACP tool - local_sandbox: fix path-segment boundary bug in _resolve_path (== or startswith +"/") and add lookahead in _resolve_paths_in_command regex to prevent /mnt/skills matching inside /mnt/skills-extra - local_sandbox_provider: replace print() with logger.warning(..., exc_info=True) - invoke_acp_agent_tool: guard getattr(option, "optionId") with None default + continue; move full prompt from INFO to DEBUG level (truncated to 200 chars) - sandbox/tools: fix _get_acp_workspace_host_path docstring to match implementation; remove misleading "read-only" language from validate_local_bash_command_paths Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(acp): thread-isolated workspaces, permission guardrail, and ContextVar registry P1.1 – ACP workspace thread isolation - Add `Paths.acp_workspace_dir(thread_id)` for per-thread paths - `_get_work_dir(thread_id)` in invoke_acp_agent_tool now uses `{base_dir}/threads/{thread_id}/acp-workspace/`; falls back to global workspace when thread_id is absent or invalid - `_invoke` extracts thread_id from `RunnableConfig` via `Annotated[RunnableConfig, InjectedToolArg]` - `sandbox/tools.py`: `_get_acp_workspace_host_path(thread_id)`, `_resolve_acp_workspace_path(path, thread_id)`, and all callers (`replace_virtual_paths_in_command`, `mask_local_paths_in_output`, `ls_tool`, `read_file_tool`) now resolve ACP paths per-thread P1.2 – ACP permission guardrail - New `auto_approve_permissions: bool = False` field in `ACPAgentConfig` - `_build_permission_response(options, *, auto_approve: bool)` now defaults to deny; only approves when `auto_approve=True` - Document field in `config.example.yaml` P2 – Deferred tool registry race condition - Replace module-level `_registry` global with `contextvars.ContextVar` - Each asyncio request context gets its own registry; worker threads inherit the context automatically via `loop.run_in_executor` - Expose `get_deferred_registry` / `set_deferred_registry` / `reset_deferred_registry` helpers Tests: 831 pass (57 for affected modules, 3 new tests) Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(sandbox): mount /mnt/acp-workspace in docker sandbox container The AioSandboxProvider was not mounting the ACP workspace into the sandbox container, so /mnt/acp-workspace was inaccessible when the lead agent tried to read ACP results in docker mode. Changes: - `ensure_thread_dirs`: also create `acp-workspace/` (chmod 0o777) so the directory exists before the sandbox container starts — required for Docker volume mounts - `_get_thread_mounts`: add read-only `/mnt/acp-workspace` mount using the per-thread host path (`host_paths.acp_workspace_dir(thread_id)`) - Update stale CLAUDE.md description (was "fixed global workspace") Tests: `test_aio_sandbox_provider.py` (4 new tests) Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(lint): remove unused imports in test_aio_sandbox_provider Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix config --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com> |
