fix(scheduler): serialize the SQLite launch-budget claim (#5469)
* fix(scheduler): serialize the SQLite launch-budget claim claim_queued_run counts the executing occurrences and then promotes one row to launching. Postgres serializes that pair with a transaction advisory lock; SQLite had no counterpart. pysqlite does not begin a transaction for a SELECT, so the budget count ran in autocommit and the deferred transaction reserved the writer only at the promoting UPDATE. Claimers racing on distinct rows therefore read the same stale count, each passed its own status == 'queued' CAS, and max_concurrent_runs was exceeded. A manual trigger overlapping the poller reaches this concurrently within one process, and scheduler.multi_instance over a shared database file reaches it across processes. Two claims of the same row were already safe, which is why the existing coverage did not catch it. Take the writer before the count with BEGIN IMMEDIATE, the idiom ThreadMetaRepository already uses for its read-modify-write paths and the same reservation _lock_task makes for a parent row. The claim targets one row but the budget is global, so this has to be the database-wide writer rather than a row lock. * docs(changelog): reference #5469 in the SQLite launch-budget entry * test(scheduler): pin the launch-budget test's connection reuse The warm-up gather is what makes the claimers actually overlap, but it silently depended on the SQLite engine keeping pooled connections. If that engine ever moved to a non-pooling class, every claimer would open its own connection, the per-connection PRAGMA setup would stagger them, and this test would pass against an unserialized claim instead of failing -- the cold-pool case it exists to avoid. Assert that the warm-up left connections checked in. A non-pooling class does not implement checkedin() at all, so a missing counter reads as zero reuse and reports the same explanation rather than an AttributeError. Verified against NullPool: the guard fails with "NullPool left 0 connections pooled after the warm-up". Only pool_size connections survive the gather (the overflow is discarded), which is why the pre-fix failure is exactly five claimants over a cap of one rather than eight. --------- Co-authored-by: Willem Jiang <willem.jiang@gmail.com> |

feat(projects): Projects MVP Phase 2 — instructions, document shelf, promotion, trash (#5443)
* feat(projects): Projects MVP Phase 2 — instructions, document shelf, promotion, trash Implements docs/superpowers/specs/2026-09-12-projects-mvp-phase2-design.md (issue #5160, tracker #5129) in the slice order of the spec's §16. Slices: - A: ProjectsConfig + write-time 422 UTF-8 byte cap; PROJECT_CONTEXT_KEY admission pinning (both server-owned sets + worker hoist); latest-only request-scoped <project> block via DynamicContextMiddleware wrap_model_call/awrap_model_call (idempotent reassembly, reserved ID prefix + marker + provenance, never persisted); journal audit fingerprints; Instructions tab. - B: ProjectDocumentRow + migration 0023; ProjectDocumentRepository with locked check-and-set; hash-qualified immutable shelf storage with Paths helpers; upload/list/content/delete-to-trash routes; project delete trashes the shelf in-transaction; request-scoped bounded <documents> index with honest count/shown + actionable overflow note; list_project_documents/read_project_document tools registered only on pinned runs; PAT allowlist + drift guards; blocking-IO anchors. - C: shared thread-upload ingestion service (uploads router refactored to parity); POST from-thread with provenance; attach-to-thread with lock-staged copy (archived source allowed); read-only thread-files view with per-group truncation reporting. - D: restore (restored/merged/not_found/no_target/content_missing; no file moves), purge (continuous row lock across unlink/delete/commit, retryable on FS errors), retention sweep (lazy + startup, 24h orphan guard, row-side reconciliation never deletes). - E: Documents tab (shelf + conversation-files browser, provenance, archived banner, content-missing rows), /workspace/trash route, sidebar entry, composer attach handoff, i18n (en-US/zh-CN), e2e mocks + specs. Review hardening folded in (10 rounds, all with tests): - force active shelf content (HTML/XML family) to download; nosniff on artifact + content responses; unified unsandboxed-iframe PDF preview (fixes the pre-existing Chromium sandbox blank in the artifact viewer) - scope document trash to the URL project under the document lock - atomic no-overwrite filename reservation for ALL ingestion (seeded claims + os.link commit with suffix retry; same-name re-upload now unique-names instead of replacing); hidden staging only, no visible placeholders; lease cleanup on setup failure - serialize conversion under the document lock with post-lock active revalidation; drain locked filesystem work on cancellation; preserve bytes when an insert's commit state is uncertain (including trashed rows) - original-integrity checks before serving text or cached conversions; content_missing surfaced in list responses (UI reads the flag, no 409-probe); downloads always serve original bytes - bounded streaming document reads with cached char counts; shelf limits declared in middleware release identity - thread-root confinement for from-thread sources; config fallback rejects fractional/infinite values; composer counts staged attachments; pending attachments persist until submission or removal; in-flight instruction/rename edits survive save refetches; shelf and trash pagination; conversation-file and thread-files pages stay subscribed to refetches Docs: README/README_zh, backend API.md/ARCHITECTURE.md, AGENTS.md contracts, config.example.yaml projects block. Review follow-ups (head b4807477 → this revision): - The trash retention sweep is split so repeated lazy triggers stay bounded: the indexed expiry purge still runs on every trigger (GET /api/trash/documents, POST /api/trash/purge) while the O(all rows + all files) reconciliation is throttled to one run per user per 15 minutes (process-local, per-user window). The startup sweep now runs as a background task instead of blocking gateway readiness, and shutdown awaits it (bounded). - The export scrub (stripInternalMarkers) is fence- and indentation-aware like the render path, so a pasted, fenced <project>/<documents> snippet survives markdown export while real injected blocks (never fenced) are still removed. Fence regexes moved to a dependency-free leaf module to avoid the messages↔streamdown import cycle. - The artifact viewer's PDF iframe no longer carries an added title attribute (the upstream e2e contract locates it via :not([title])), and the upstream artifact-preview spec now pins the new contract: PDFs render unsandboxed, images keep sandbox="". * fix(projects): round-2 review — cancel an overrun trash sweep, restore the PDF frame title - Shutdown cancelled only the shield around the background startup sweep, so an all-users reconciliation that outlived the 5s budget kept walking rows and files while the document repo and DB engine were disposed underneath it. The wait now lives in `_shutdown_startup_trash_sweep`, which cancels the task and drains it before worker exit: the shield keeps the wait bounded, the cancel makes it final (CancelledError lands at the sweep's next await, and `_run_startup_trash_sweep` only catches `Exception`, so nothing swallows it). - The browser-preview iframe lost `title={getFileName(filepath)}` in the previous fix round, leaving the PDF frame without an accessible name while its siblings keep theirs. Restore it (WCAG frame titles), assert it in the DOM test, and anchor the e2e on `iframe[title="report.pdf"]` instead of `iframe:not([title])`. * fix(projects): round-3 review — report the sweep's late finish, not a phantom cancel `Task.cancel()` returns False when the sweep already finished inside the window between the deadline firing and the cancel, so the shutdown log claimed a cancellation that never happened. Branch on that outcome: the warning stays for a real cancel, a late finish is logged at info, and both paths still reap the task before worker exit. * fix(projects): round-4 review — make Empty trash delete what it confirms `POST /api/trash/purge` only ran the retention sweep, and the sweep's candidate selection is age-gated, so a freshly trashed document survived "Empty trash" even though the confirmation promises that every listed document is permanently deleted. With one trashed row the route answered `{"purged": 0}` and left it in place; `GET /api/trash/documents` sweeps expired rows before listing, so the visible rows were normally ineligible for the action by construction. Empty trash now drives `purge_all_trashed`: the caller's trashed rows (`list_all_trashed`, no age filter) each go through the same guarded, row-locked `purge` as the single-document delete — bytes first, then the row, in one transaction — so a row restored mid-flight is skipped instead of force-deleted, and an unlink failure rolls that row back and answers 500 with a retryable message. Retention expiry stays where it was: the sweep's `purge_candidates` is now the only age-gated selection, and the lazy retention sweep still runs on the listing and at startup. Tests: the router suite replaces the retention-gated expectation with the reviewer's repro (fresh row purged, bytes unlinked, shelf and other users' trash untouched, a failing unlink stays retryable and 500); a blocking-I/O anchor drives the new entry point through the offload; the mocked e2e covers the action end to end; a new real-backend spec performs it against the real gateway and re-reads `GET /api/trash/documents`. README, API, ARCHITECTURE and the phase-2 design docs (en+zh) state the age-independent contract. |

fix(gateway): scope runs read endpoints by data identity, not authorization identity (#5448)
* fix(gateway): scope runs read endpoints by data identity, not authorization identity Trusted internal callers are authorized as a synthetic internal user (id "default", or the make_safe_user_id-normalized owner with an owner header), while start_run stamps run rows with the raw trusted-owner value. list_runs / get_run / list_runs_page filtered by the authorization identity, so the store-side user filter never matched and internal callers always saw an empty runs list (or 404) for threads they are authorized to read. The three read endpoints now resolve their filter id through _run_scope_user_id: internal-role callers skip the per-user filter (thread visibility is already authorized by owner_check=True), and browser/API sessions keep the existing per-user filter unchanged. Regression tests cover both identities across the three endpoints (list, keyset page, single get) with a MemoryRunStore seeded with mixed-owner rows; without the fix the four internal-caller cases fail while the browser-session isolation case passes. * fix(gateway): route the message read endpoints through the same data-identity scoping Review follow-up on #5448: list_thread_messages and list_thread_messages_page resolved get_current_user and passed it as the data filter to the event-store scan, hidden-run lookups, turn-duration injection and the feedback queries — the same authorization-vs-data identity conflation fixed for the runs endpoints, leaving the #5437 empty-read symptom in place for lossy owner values. Both endpoints now resolve their filter id through _run_scope_user_id as well. Regression tests extend to the two message endpoints, asserting the resolved filter identity at the runs-store and feedback-repo boundaries (None for internal callers, the session user id for browser sessions). * fix(feedback): deterministic per-run collapse for unfiltered feedback reads Review follow-up on #5448: with _run_scope_user_id returning None for internal callers, the feedback lookups now receive an explicit-None user id, which skips the user_id WHERE in FeedbackRepository. On shared/NULL-owner threads several browser users can hold feedback on the same run, and list_by_thread_grouped / list_by_run_ids collapsed rows per run_id via a dict comprehension over unordered results — the feedback attached to the last AI message would be an arbitrary user's row. Both methods now order by created_at ASC with feedback_id as the tie-break, so the collapse deterministically keeps the most recently created feedback. _run_scope_user_id's docstring now documents that the resolved id also scopes feedback and event-store reads, not just run rows. Regression test seeds multi-user feedback on one run and asserts the collapse outcome is stable across repeated unfiltered reads. * docs(feedback): the collapse keeps the most recently written feedback created_at is refreshed on upsert, so the surviving row per run is the most recently written (created or updated), not the most recently created — align both docstrings with the ordering key's actual semantics. |

fix(scheduler): reconcile stuck once tasks from committed run outcome (#5035)
* fix(scheduler): reconcile stuck once tasks from committed run outcome Restart recovery (cancel_stuck_once_tasks and the multi-instance reconcile_stuck_once_tasks) blindly flipped every stuck once-task to 'cancelled'. When handle_run_completion crashed between its two transactions, a once-task whose run had already committed 'success' was permanently reported as cancelled. Both reconciliation paths now read the latest scheduled_task_runs row without a status filter and finalize the parent to match: success -> completed (last_error cleared), failed -> failed with the run's error, interrupted -> cancelled with the run's error when present, skipped -> cancelled (no work performed). Active occurrences (queued/launching/running) are left untouched — a concurrent completion or a later recovery pass will finalize them once the run reaches a terminal state. Tasks without a terminal run row keep the previous generic cancellation. Review follow-ups (willem-bd / Huixin615): - Extract _finalise_once_task_from_run() so both recovery paths share one outcome mapping (no more drift between single- and multi-instance paths). Returns bool (True = finalised, False = active/no-op) for explicit counter management at call sites. - Fix a no-op (`run_row.error or None` -> `run_row.error`) in the skipped branch. - Drop the unused `status` parameter from the test task helpers. - Use TERMINAL_RUN_STATUSES / ACTIVE_RUN_STATUSES constants (local copies to avoid circular import; kept in sync with scheduled_task_runs.sql). - [P1] Read the latest run AFTER acquiring the parent task row lock, not from a pre-lock batch snapshot. The latest-run lookup now runs per task under the lock with populate_existing so a concurrently committed status is read back fresh. - [P2] Race tests now use monkeypatch to actually enter the race window: _intercepted_fetch commits success in a separate session at the moment the per-task fetch fires, so a reverted pre-lock batch implementation fails the test, while the current post-lock implementation passes. - [P1] Do not finalize parent for active occurrences. A non-terminal scheduled occurrence means the run is still in progress — the parent must be left untouched until the completion path or a later recovery pass establishes a terminal outcome. - [P2] Add cancel_stuck_once_tasks to the single-instance poll loop so stuck once-tasks are not left permanently "running" when the startup sweep fails (mirrors multi-instance _reconcile_active_state behavior). - Fix stale docstrings in cancel_stuck_once_tasks and _fetch_latest_run. Adds regression tests for multiple historical runs (older success + newer skipped/active) on both paths, monkeypatch-based race tests that prove a concurrent completion committing success is reflected as completed, and active-run tests that verify the parent is left unchanged. Documents the behavior in AGENTS.md. Fixes #5034 * fix(scheduler): address review comments on completion-consistency fix - _fetch_latest_run: drop arbitrary id DESC tie-break; order by scheduled_for DESC (deterministic recency on schedule position) - _finalise_once_task_from_run: annotate bool return type - Centralize TERMINAL/ACTIVE_RUN_STATUSES in scheduled_tasks/model.py; stop duplicating them in scheduled_tasks/sql.py and scheduled_task_runs/sql.py (removes stale circular-import workaround) - cancel_stuck_once_tasks: run unconditionally in single-instance poll loop (remove try/except swallow) - tests: pin created_at/scheduled_for in _create_run so recency ordering is actually exercised; correct docstrings that described the active-occurrence branch as 'generic cancel' instead of 'left unchanged' * fix(scheduler): correct finalizer return annotation * fix: order scheduled task runs by creation time * fix(scheduler): stabilize latest run reconciliation ordering * fix(scheduler): order latest runs by creation time * test: update trace scheduler stub * fix(scheduler): clarify reconciliation diagnostics Signed-off-by: Totoro-qaq <279883115+Totoro-qaq@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(scheduler): fail closed on startup recovery Keep single-instance parent reconciliation at startup so it cannot race manual admission. Propagate recovery failures through the Gateway lifespan before channel startup, preventing a half-started scheduler. Tests cover both recovery failure stages and a queued occurrence that survives startup before the ordinary poll drain launches it. Signed-off-by: Totoro-qaq <279883115+Totoro-qaq@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(scheduler): order occurrences and fence stale parent writes Allocate per-task occurrence sequences under the parent lock and guard parent projection across launch, recovery, completion, and queue failure paths. Track launch accounting separately so stale occurrences are counted once without replacing newer results. Commit completion and accounting atomically, preserve legacy history, and cover migrations and reordered execution on SQLite and PostgreSQL. * fix(scheduler): tighten completion projection and launch fencing diagnostics Share the once-task outcome mapping between completion and both recovery paths, validate the terminal status before opening the completion transaction, leave cron parent status untouched on completion, log the fenced launch update when an occurrence does not belong to the launched run, and drop the README capability line. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(scheduler): compare caller time only against unsequenced occurrences Among sequenced rows the parent-locked occurrence_seq is the only recency key. An unsequenced row can only be legacy history or an admission by a pre-upgrade Gateway writer, so recovery prefers it over the sequence winner only when its caller timestamp is later, which is the previous ordering for that pair. A rolling upgrade therefore degrades to the pre-sequence behaviour instead of ranking every pre-upgrade admission below every sequenced one. Document that boundary instead of requiring every Gateway writer to stop before the upgrade. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(scheduler): gate once-task recovery on the same projection rule Recovery now finalises a once-task parent only from the occurrence that can_project() accepts: the highest sequenced occurrence whenever one exists, or the timestamp-latest row for a task whose history is entirely unsequenced. An unsequenced row admitted by a pre-upgrade writer can no longer cancel a parent whose sequenced occurrence is still live, nor stall finalisation of a parent whose sequenced occurrence already completed. Document that pre-upgrade instances project their own admissions during a rolling upgrade. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(scheduler): defer once-task recovery while any occurrence is live uq_scheduled_task_run_active allows one non-terminal occurrence per task, so a live row is the task's newest admission whatever its caller clock and whether it carries a sequence. Both once-task recovery paths now probe for any active occurrence after the fresh latest-run read and leave the parent untouched while one exists; cancel_stuck_once_tasks also locks the parent row so admission cannot insert a queued occurrence between that probe and the commit. Once no occurrence is live, the sequence winner decides and a terminalised unsequenced row never overrides it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(persistence): follow the local head past canonical 0019 Main's forward-revision tests assumed 0019_thread_incarnations was the local chain head. With 0022_scheduled_occurrence_seq chained after it, seed the canonical-0019 shape explicitly, assert the real head where a database is upgraded, derive the 0020 rollback binary's revision set from the ancestors of its head, and step the PostgreSQL restart scenario back to canonical 0019 before the rollback binary restarts. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> * docs(migrations): describe the chain through 0022_scheduled_occurrence_seq The rolling-forward section still ended the local chain at canonical 0019; it now names 0022_scheduled_occurrence_seq as the head and lists it among the revisions the 0020 rollback-floor binary does not know. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(scheduler): accept CI's sync Postgres URL in occurrence fixtures CI hands over TEST_POSTGRES_URI as postgresql://...?sslmode=disable. The occurrence, ordering and 0022 migration fixtures built async engines from it directly, so SQLAlchemy chose psycopg2, which is not installed. Normalize the scheme to postgresql+asyncpg and drop libpq-only query keys, matching the existing 0019 migration tests. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * docs(scheduler): keep the backend AGENTS.md chain within its budget The middlewares guidance chain was already above the hard limit on main, so any added byte in backend/AGENTS.md fails the agent guidance check. Leave backend/AGENTS.md identical to main and record the recovery projection rule in the 0022 migration entry, which already describes the occurrence fields. feat(gateway): paginate thread run history (#5283)
* feat(gateway): paginate thread run history (#5282) GET /api/threads/{thread_id}/runs stays a bare array of the newest 100 runs so LangGraph SDK clients keep working. Add GET /runs/page with a (created_at, run_id) keyset cursor so callers can walk older history. * fix(gateway): reject one-sided run history cursors RunManager.list_by_thread now raises if only one of before_created_at or before_run_id is set, matching the HTTP 422. Document the per-page sort cost on the SQL keyset query, and add the missing CHANGELOG [#5282] link definition. * fix(gateway): round-trip run page cursors through query strings Emit next_before_created_at with a Z suffix so '+' is not decoded as a space. Accept that space, and Z, when parsing. Treat blank cursor fields as absent and reject a non-ISO before_created_at in RunManager so a harness caller cannot silently restart at the newest page. * style(gateway): ruff-format run page cursor files Collapse the one-sided cursor ValueError and the two before_created_at asserts so ruff format --check passes at line-length 240. |

feat(projects): project workspaces with scoped chats and thread membership (#5265)
* feat(projects): project workspaces with scoped chats and thread membership
Backend:
- projects table model and migration; fail-closed ProjectRepository with
ownership checks, CRUD/archive/restore/delete router, and atomic thread
move between projects
- threads_meta.project_id column exposed as reserved deerflow_project_id
metadata; project-aware thread create/search with pagination bounds and
membership echoed in create responses
- first-run admission assigns the project only at genuine first run, seeded
at write time and dropped when invalid; serialized against project
deletion and thread assignment
- branch creation inherits the source thread's project membership (an
archived/deleted project degrades the branch to unassigned instead of
failing the request)
Frontend:
- projects data layer, thread move API, and sidebar projects section with
flat/grouped modes, archived-project threads, and stable virtual-list
offsets
- project detail page with project-scoped new chat
(/workspace/chats/new?project=) and paginated thread list
- move-to-project thread menu, new-project dialog, archived-project gates
- project-scoped new chats pre-create the thread with membership before the
first submit or /goal set, so runs never proceed outside the project
- goal-set preparation is fenced against conversation switches: a stale
continuation is dropped instead of saving the goal or launching the
abandoned submission on the newly opened conversation
- project thread lists join thread lifecycle invalidations (stop, pin) so
an open project page never keeps stale titles, recency, or pagination
* fix(chats): keep archive undo toast when the sidebar row unmounts
The archive success toast was fired from per-mutate callbacks passed to
mutation.mutate. React Query drops those handlers when the observer
component unmounts before the mutation settles; archiving the open chat
removes its sidebar row mid-flight, so the undo toast never appeared and
the e2e archive-undo test timed out waiting for it.
Move the success/error handlers to the mutation level (useArchiveThread
options, same pattern as useMoveThreadToProject) where callbacks are
delivered even after the originating row unmounts.
* fix(projects): pin project thread listing contract and exclude archived chats
GET /api/projects/{id}/threads returned the thread store row verbatim
(list[dict], no response_model): user_id/assistant_id leaked, any future
ThreadMetaRow column would auto-leak, and the OpenAPI schema was empty.
Return a narrow ProjectThreadResponse (the exact fields ProjectThread
declares) with the same metadata secret redaction the surrounding thread
endpoints get from _MetadataRedactingResponse.
The listing also ran search() without the archived filter, so a retired
chat rendered as a normal row on the project page while the sidebar hid
it. Search archived=False to mirror the sidebar's archived:false lists;
restore stays on the global Archived tab.
Both regressions pinned by new router tests: wire-shape allowlist and
archived-member exclusion.
* docs(migrations): record the 0019/0020 chain against the bootstrap reservation
The tree now chains 0018 -> 0019_projects -> 0020_threads_meta_project_id,
so migrations/AGENTS.md was stale twice over: the revision index stopped at
0018 and the rolling-forward section still claimed the tree 'deliberately
remains at 0018'.
Document the new head and record the intentional numeric-prefix reuse of
0019: 0019_projects is in-chain while 0019_thread_incarnations stays the
reserved, allowlisted out-of-tree rollout id. The owning rollout revision
must re-parent onto this tree's head when it merges so alembic never sees
two heads off 0018; bootstrap.py now cross-references that note next to
_FORWARD_COMPATIBLE_REVISION.
* fix(chats): invalidate project thread lists on archive/restore
useArchiveThread refreshed the infinite sidebar cache, threads/search and
the per-thread metadata cache but not the project-scoped list
([...PROJECTS_QUERY_KEY, 'threads', id]) this PR adds — the one thread
mutation not wired to that key, after usePinThread, useRenameThread,
useDeleteThread, useMoveThreadToProject and invalidateStoppedThreadCaches.
An archive from a sidebar row while a project page is open therefore left
the archived chat rendered as a normal row until remount (and undo left it
missing). Invalidate the prefix in the mutation-level success handler.
Regression test asserts the project-list prefix is invalidated on success.
* fix(projects): fetch project discovery only in grouped sidebar mode
RecentChatList mounted two useProjects queries per sidebar render, but
knownProjectIds is consumed only by the grouped-mode exclusion filter; in
the default flat mode every page load paid two GET /api/projects?status=
round trips for data nothing read. Gate both queries on grouped mode —
GroupedProjectList fetches the same keys when the toggle is on and
TanStack dedupes the observers.
Also set retry: false on useProject: a deleted or foreign project 404s
deterministically, and the page renders a dedicated not-found state for
it, so the default 1s/2s/4s retry backoff kept deep links in 'loading'
for ~7s before that state appeared. Matches useThreadMetadata /
useThreadTokenUsage.
* fix(threads): fail closed on project-scoped create in memory mode
MemoryThreadMetaStore.create accepted project_id and silently ignored it,
making memory mode the one membership path that fails open: POST
/api/threads with a project id returned 200 and the run started
unassigned, violating the invariant that a run never proceeds outside the
selected project (the SQL store raises ProjectNotAssignableError inside
the insert transaction for the same request).
Raise ProjectNotAssignableError whenever project_id is present so the
router's existing 404 mapping applies, the frontend keeps the composer
text for a retry, and memory mode behaves exactly like SQL mode.
set_project already reports rejection; create now matches it.
Store-level test (raises, nothing persisted, project filter stays empty,
unscoped creates still work) plus a router-level test asserting the 404
and that no row is left behind.
* fix(projects): window the project page thread list
ProjectThreadsSection rendered every loaded page as a plain Link row, so a
long-lived project accumulated unbounded DOM on the page's scroll surface:
each load-more appended another 100 rows and every formatTimeAgo tick
re-rendered the whole list.
Reuse VirtualThreadList (now generic over any row shape with a
thread_id), pointing its scroll parent at this page's ScrollArea viewport
via the shared [data-slot="scroll-area-viewport"] selector used by
/workspace/chats; under the 60-row threshold it falls back to the plain
render, so small projects are unchanged.
* fix(projects): restore row dividers and pin them with a render test
The row class template literal concatenated transition-colors directly
with the conditional border-b token, so non-final rows rendered the
invalid class 'transition-colorsborder-b' and lost both the divider and
the transition. Compose the row classes with cn() and a boolean guard
instead.
The section moved out of page.tsx into a testable component so the row
markup finally has coverage: a DOM test asserts every row except the
final data row carries border-b (index-based, not last: — correct under
virtualization where the last mounted row is not the last data row), and
the untitled fallback plus load-more button render for a partial page.
* fix(projects): validate forward schemas and fence membership reads

fix(auth): correct OAuth conflict error message + validate multi-worker Postgres claim with real concurrency benchmark (#5026)
* fix(auth): correct OAuth uniqueness error and index parity on Postgres
create_user() caught any IntegrityError on commit and always reported it
as a duplicate email. The email pre-check already rules out a real email
collision in the common case, so any IntegrityError reaching that handler
is actually idx_users_oauth_identity firing instead -- confirmed against
both backends: SQLite reports "UNIQUE constraint failed:
users.oauth_provider, users.oauth_id", Postgres reports a
UniqueViolationError naming the same index. The caller saw "Email already
registered" for an OAuth account conflict, which is wrong and would send
API consumers debugging the wrong field.
Distinguish the two cases via a substring check on the driver error text
(both backends name the oauth columns) and raise an accurate message for
each.
Also add postgresql_where to the same index, alongside the existing
sqlite_where. This is not a correctness fix -- verified empirically that
Postgres already enforces the same practical uniqueness without it
(NULL is never equal to NULL in either backends unique index, so real
duplicate (provider, id) pairs are already rejected and NULL/NULL rows
are already unconstrained). postgresql_where makes the index genuinely
partial on Postgres too, matching the stated intent in the surrounding
comment and keeping the index smaller as the common case (plain-password
accounts, both columns NULL) accumulates.
* test(bench): add multi-process SQLite vs Postgres concurrency benchmark
CONFIGURATION.md documents that multi-worker deployments must use Postgres
because "SQLite silently ignores row-level locks", but nothing in the repo
exercised that claim against real separate worker processes -- the existing
checkpoint benchmarks (scripts/benchmark/checkpoint/) measure single-process
read/write latency, and the existing Postgres tests
(test_pg_schema_integration.py, test_multi_worker_postgres_gate.py) cover
schema placement and config validation, not throughput or lock behavior
under concurrent load.
run_concurrency_bench.py spawns N real OS processes (subprocess.Popen, not
asyncio tasks or threads within one process) against the shared users
table, mixing reads (get_user_by_email) and writes (create_user) at a
configurable ratio, and reports throughput, error counts by exception
type, and p50/p95/p99/max latency per run.
Measured locally (2/4/8/16 workers, 100 ops/worker, 70/30 read/write):
SQLite completed all operations with zero errors at every worker count
(busy_timeout absorbs contention rather than raising), but total
throughput stayed flat around 28-34 ops/s regardless of worker count, and
p99 latency grew from ~400ms at 2 workers to ~5.9s at 16, with a 22s max.
Postgres throughput scaled with worker count (41 to 66 ops/s) and p99
stayed under 500ms at every worker count tested. Raw JSON output from
both runs is available on request; exact numbers will vary by machine and
are not asserted in the test suite.
test_bench_concurrency.py unit-tests the pure aggregation logic
(percentile math, error grouping, crashed-worker handling) the same way
test_bench_checkpoint_channels.py does for the existing benchmarks --
fast, no DB required, not the full multi-process sweep in CI.
* fix(auth): inspect the driver exception for OAuth conflict detection
str(exc) embeds the full failed INSERT statement, whose column list
always names oauth_provider/oauth_id, so a substring check on it
misclassified every commit-time IntegrityError on the users table as
an OAuth conflict (reproduced on SQLite: a duplicate primary key with
a different email raised "OAuth account already linked: None/None").
_is_oauth_identity_violation now inspects exc.orig instead: constraint_name
on Postgres, both violated column names present (not a bare "oauth"
substring) on SQLite.
Also ships the alembic revision idx_users_oauth_identity's postgresql_where
predicate needed: 0001_baseline created it as a full index on Postgres,
and ORM metadata changes only affect fresh create_all databases, never an
already-versioned deployment.
Addresses review feedback from willem-bd.
* fix(bench): run the concurrency benchmark in an isolated schema and derive paths from the checkout
--pg-url accepted an arbitrary database URL while the code pinned
postgres_schema="public" and unconditionally ran DELETE FROM users --
against any non-disposable database that permanently destroyed every
auth account. Each run now generates a unique throwaway schema
(bench_<uuid>), points both the seeder and every worker subprocess at
it via postgres_schema, and drops only that schema (DROP SCHEMA ...
CASCADE) once the full worker-count sweep finishes.
Also stopped hard-coding /opt/deer-flow/backend as the checkout path
and .venv/bin/python3 as the interpreter: BACKEND_DIR is now derived
from Path(__file__), and workers are spawned with sys.executable (the
orchestrator's own interpreter) instead, so the documented
uv run python scripts/benchmark/concurrency/run_concurrency_bench.py
command works from any checkout.
Addresses review feedback from willem-bd.
* fix: shorten oauth-index revision id, repin migration-head assertions, fix bench read/write mix
- 0017_users_oauth_identity_partial_pg (36 chars) exceeded
alembic_version.version_num's VARCHAR(32) limit, which would fail
stamping/upgrading on both fresh and existing Postgres deployments.
Renamed to 0017_oauth_identity_pg_partial (30 chars).
- Repinned every test asserting 0016_subagent_batches as the migration
head (test_persistence_bootstrap[.py|_concurrency.py|_regression.py],
test_migration_0004/0007/0015) to the new 0017 revision id.
- worker.py's `(i % 100) < int(read_ratio * 100)` assumed n_ops >= 100;
at the documented default (50 ops/worker, 0.7 read ratio) it produced
either all-reads or all-writes, never the claimed mixed workload.
Replaced with read_count()/is_read_op(), which distribute an exact
round(n_ops * read_ratio) reads evenly across the sequence via modular
spacing, and added test_bench_worker.py covering the default values
plus small op counts.
* fix(bench): establish a real physical connection before timing ops
async with sf(): pass entered an empty AsyncSession without checking out
a physical connection -- SQLAlchemy stays lazy until the first statement
executes. That pushed connection-establishment cost onto each worker's
first timed operation instead of conn_time_s, and at 16 workers those 16
cold first-ops (1% of a 1600-op sample) could skew the reported p99.
Execute a real `SELECT 1` before starting the timer instead.
Verified with a real end-to-end run (uv sync + sqlite backend, 2
workers/10 ops, 0 errors) plus the full auth/bench/migration-bootstrap
suites (135 tests) and ruff check/format, all clean.
* fix(bench): synchronize workers before timing, fix percentile off-by-one
Two remaining measurement issues from review:
- run_workers() started the wall clock before spawning any worker, so
throughput/wall_time absorbed N processes' staggered Python-startup and
connection-establishment cost, and early workers could run ahead of ones
still starting. Workers now print READY right before their timed loop
and block on stdin for a GO signal; the orchestrator waits for every
READY, then starts the timer and releases all workers together.
- summarize()'s pct() used int(len(latencies) * p) directly as a
zero-based index -- a one-based-rank-as-index bug that put p95 and p99
at the same slot (the max) for any 20-or-fewer-sample run, and for the
documented 100-sample default. Now delegates to
checkpoint_bench_common.percentile(), the already-correct nearest-rank
implementation used elsewhere in the same benchmark family, instead of
a second, broken one.
Verified: 14/14 unit tests pass (2 new pinned-value regression tests for
the percentile bug, using the reviewer's own 20-sample repro), ruff
clean, and a real 2/4-worker SQLite multi-process smoke run completes
with distinct p95/p99/max latencies and no hang.
* fix(bench): absolute SQLite bench path, surface crash diagnostics, exit nonzero on failure; share OAuth index constant + cover Postgres branch
Three more findings from review at 5fd25a7:
- seed_baseline() cleaned an absolute .deer-flow/bench_data path but
handed DatabaseConfig a relative one, which resolves against the
CALLER's CWD -- not BACKEND_DIR. Invoking the documented command from
anywhere other than backend/ silently pointed the seeder and the
(cwd=BACKEND_DIR) workers at two different directories: workers crashed
with 'unable to open database file' while the run still printed a
well-formed summary and exited 0. Both seed_baseline() and worker.py's
make_session_factory() now use the same absolute path.
- Crashed workers' stderr was captured then discarded, and main() always
exited 0 -- an all-crashed sweep was indistinguishable from a real
(uneventful) measurement to anything checking the exit code or
--out. run_workers() now prints each crash immediately and tags it with
the real worker_id (previously always None); summarize() exposes
crashed_worker_errors alongside the existing crashed_workers count;
main() exits 1 via the new summary_indicates_failure() whenever any
sweep crashed or fell short of expected_total_ops.
- idx_users_oauth_identity was hardcoded separately in the ORM Index and
in _is_oauth_identity_violation's Postgres branch, with no test to
catch drift, and that branch had zero non-skipped coverage (its only
guard needs a live Postgres CI never configures). Exported
OAUTH_IDENTITY_INDEX_NAME from user/model.py as the shared source of
truth (migrations intentionally keep their own frozen literal, matching
every other revision in that package) and added stub-exception unit
tests pinning both the asyncpg constraint_name path and the sqlite
message-substring path, positive and negative.
Verified: 107 passed locally (auth + bench-unit suites), ruff clean, and
two real reproductions -- invoking run_concurrency_bench.py from a
scratch directory outside backend/ (the reviewer's exact repro) now
completes 8/8 ops with crashed_workers: 0 instead of crashing, and the
new crashed_worker_errors/exit-code logic is exercised directly by the
new unit tests against the real summarize()/summary_indicates_failure().
* fix(auth): attribute create_user IntegrityErrors to the right constraint
Two coupled review findings on the classification helpers:
P3 (fall-through) -- after ruling out the OAuth-identity index, create_user
raised "Email already registered: {email}" for every remaining
IntegrityError, including the duplicate-primary-key case the new
regression test exercises, whose address is not registered. Added
_is_email_violation() so the email message is used only for an actual
users.email collision that raced past the pre-check; anything else (in
practice a duplicate id) now raises a neutral
"User already exists (constraint: <name>)".
P2 (unreachable asyncpg branch) -- exc.orig is not the asyncpg error.
SQLAlchemy's asyncpg dialect re-raises its own DBAPI IntegrityError
(pgcode/sqlstate only) 'from' the real asyncpg error, so constraint_name
lives on exc.orig.__cause__. getattr(exc.orig, "constraint_name", None)
was always None on Postgres; the helpers only worked there by accident,
matching asyncpg's DETAIL line in the message fallback. Added
_driver_constraint_name() which walks orig then orig.__cause__, and the
stub tests now model that real shape (orig wrapper + __cause__) instead of
a constraint_name that no driver puts on orig directly.
Tests: 76 passed. New coverage for the email-race path, both new helpers
on each backend, the neutral fallback message, and the cause-chain walk.
* fix(bench): match app SQLite PRAGMAs in workers; fail a sweep on any op error
Two review follow-ups:
- worker.py opened its SQLite engine with only connect_args timeout=30.
synchronous and foreign_keys are per-connection PRAGMAs, so workers ran
at SQLite's synchronous=FULL / foreign_keys=OFF while a real Gateway
worker runs synchronous=NORMAL (persistence/engine.py::_enable_sqlite_wal)
-- an extra fsync per commit on the measured 30%-write path, overstating
SQLite's cost in the direction that flatters the "use Postgres"
conclusion. Added a connect listener applying the same four PRAGMAs, with
a test asserting synchronous/foreign_keys/journal_mode on a real worker
connection.
- summary_indicates_failure() only looked at crashes and the completed vs
expected op counts, so a sweep where every op completed but raised
(e.g. writes hitting OperationalError) passed as a clean measurement:
completed_ops == expected, 0 crashes. Added an "errors > 0" clause; the
error breakdown stays in the JSON, only the exit code changes. Test added.
test_bench_concurrency.py + test_bench_worker.py green (20), plus a real
2-worker sqlite smoke run (6/6 ops, 0 errors, exit 0).
* fix(auth): match the real email index name; only claim "exists" for uniqueness
Review follow-ups on the classification helpers:
- email is mapped_column(unique=True, index=True), which SQLAlchemy and
0001_baseline realise as a single UNIQUE INDEX (ix_users_email), not a
named UNIQUE constraint. _is_email_violation compared the driver
constraint name against "users_email_key", which Postgres never emits,
so that arm was dead on Postgres (SQLite matched via the message). Fixed
to ix_users_email.
- the residual IntegrityError fallback raised "User already exists" for
every remaining IntegrityError -- a NOT NULL / CHECK / foreign-key
violation is not a "user already exists" condition and is not part of
create_user's ValueError contract. Added _is_uniqueness_violation
(sqlstate 23505, or the SQLite "UNIQUE/PRIMARY KEY constraint failed"
message); only that raises the "already exists" ValueError, everything
else propagates unchanged.
- documented scripts/benchmark/concurrency/ in backend/AGENTS.md alongside
the other benchmark family.
Tests: 78 auth + 20 bench-unit pass, ruff clean. New coverage for
_is_uniqueness_violation on both backends and for a non-uniqueness
IntegrityError propagating out of create_user.
* fix(bench): don't pre-close worker stdin (breaks communicate); require --pg-url for postgres
* fix(bench): ruff format; time throughput on the op phase, not teardown
- lint-backend: ruff format the files touched in this PR.
- Throughput window (P2): the orchestrator sampled its wall clock after
every worker's communicate() returned, so it also covered each worker's
engine.dispose(), result serialization and stdout transfer. Each worker
now times just its operation phase (GO -> last op) and reports
ops_elapsed_s; summarize() uses max(ops_elapsed_s) over the workers -- all
released by the same GO -- as the throughput window (ops_window_s).
- Exercise migration 0018 (P2): test_user_oauth_partial_index.py goes
through bootstrap create_all(), which builds the partial index from ORM
metadata and never runs 0018.upgrade(). New Postgres-gated
test_migration_0018_oauth_identity_pg_partial.py alembic-upgrades to 0017
(full index), then 0018 (asserts the predicate appears), then downgrades
(asserts the full index is restored) and re-upgrades.
* docs(middlewares): tighten SandboxAudit and Clarification entries in AGENTS.md
PR #5134 grew agents/middlewares/AGENTS.md ~1.8 KB, pushing the effective
AGENTS.md chain for that directory over the 96 KiB hard limit once this
branch also documents scripts/benchmark/concurrency/ in backend/AGENTS.md.
Condense the two longest middleware entries (SandboxAuditMiddleware,
ClarificationMiddleware) without dropping any identifier, example, issue
reference, ordering constraint, or documented gap; chain back to ~96.8 KiB.

feat(auth): add personal access tokens for programmatic API access (#5041)
* feat(auth): add personal access tokens for programmatic API access (#4849) Backend-first implementation of the PAT contract from #4849: show-once dfp_ tokens bound to their owning user (AUTH_SOURCE_PAT, is_internal=false), digest-only storage (migration 0017), strict credential precedence (invalid Bearer is a 401, never cookie fallback), CSRF double-submit skipped only for Bearer requests while auth-endpoint origin checks still run, scopes intersecting the authz route permissions, session-auth-only PAT management and password changes, and throttled best-effort last_used_at stamps. * fix(auth): harden PAT scope boundary and schema parity from adversarial review Independent review of the initial draft found: (1) scopes only constrained the threads/runs permission axis while admin routes treated a PAT as its (possibly admin) owner — is_admin_user now rejects PAT callers outright since no scope grants admin capability; (2) the model declared a column UNIQUE constraint while migration 0017 created a named unique index, so downgrade failed on create_all-bootstrapped DBs — both now use the named unique index; (3) auth-disabled mode is an operator override and now stays ahead of the Bearer check so a stray Authorization header cannot 401 an E2E sandbox; plus wiring the previously-unused constants, bounding the last_used_at stamp cache, and four new tests (middleware-level expiry, expires_in_days, admin-capability rejection with session control, and the auth-disabled precedence). * docs(api): document personal access tokens for programmatic API access * fix(auth): close PAT security boundaries from review (default-deny routes, extension admin suppression) P1-1: scope intersection only constrains @require_permission routes, so undecorated mutation routes (DELETE /api/memory, POST /api/agents, Lark credential switching, channel config) accepted a PAT holding a single read scope. AuthMiddleware now enforces a default-deny route policy in auth/pat.py: PAT requests are admitted only to the thread/run lifecycle routes the v1 scopes govern; everything else answers 403 regardless of scopes. Session-cookie callers are unaffected. P1-2: the extension principal resolver projected is_admin/roles from the raw system_role, so an admin-owned PAT passed deerflow_extension_api.require_admin on contributed routes despite the documented no-admin guarantee. The projection is now PAT-aware and suppresses every admin signal for PAT callers, mirroring deps.is_admin_user. Both fixes carry regression tests (route outside policy 403 + session control; production resolver admin suppression), and API.md documents the default-deny boundary. * fix(auth): enforce PAT scopes on stateless run entry and harden decorator Follow-up hardening from an independent audit of the P1 fixes: - POST /api/runs/stream and /api/runs/wait were the only allowlisted run entrypoints without @require_permission, so a threads:read-only PAT could still start runs (same bug class as P1-1, now closed): both now carry @require_permission("runs", "create"). POST /api/threads and POST /api/threads/search gain threads:write / threads:read for the same reason. Authorization-disabled deployments see no change (the permission set resolves to all permissions). - require_permission now binds the wrapped signature to locate a positionally-passed request before injecting the test stub, fixing 'got multiple values for argument' on direct positional unit-test calls. - API.md: the intro PAT example used GET /api/models, which the new default-deny policy 403s — replaced with GET /api/threads; the default-deny route list now spells out method sets. Regression test: threads:read-only PAT is 403 on the decorated stateless entry while a runs:create PAT passes. * fix(auth): address review P2s (empty Authorization header, PAT name trimming, API example) - CSRFMiddleware treats an explicitly empty Authorization header as present (is None), so an invalid credential always reaches AuthMiddleware's uniform 401 instead of a CSRF 403 that varies by method/CSRF state. Regression: empty-header request dies at auth. - PATCreateRequest strips the name and rejects whitespace-only values before token generation; created names are stored trimmed. - API.md intro PAT example now uses the implemented POST /api/threads/search endpoint (GET /api/threads does not exist). - AGENTS.md trimmed back under the guidance soft budget after the upstream merge. * fix(auth): tighten PAT route policy to implemented methods only The allowlist admitted GET /api/threads, a method no router implements. Pre-authorizing a dead method weakens the default-deny boundary: a future GET collection route added without a permission decorator would become PAT-reachable without an explicit policy change. Restrict the rule to POST, fix the stale GET description in API.md's PAT constraints, and document the default-deny boundary accurately in the gateway AGENTS.md guidance (only the threads/runs allowlist is PAT-reachable; every other authenticated route 403s PAT callers). Audited every remaining rule against the mounted routers: all other method+path entries map to real routes. Regression: test_pat_policy_does_not_pre_authorize_unimplemented_methods. * test(auth): guarantee the negative digest test mutates the token token[:-1] + "X" is identical to the original whenever the generated token already ends in X (1/62), making the negative digest assertion fail intermittently. Choose the replacement character based on the existing tail so the mutated token always differs. * fix(auth): require runs:cancel for cancel-then-stream requests stream_existing_run is gated at runs:read so action-less stream joins work with read-only credentials, but its ?action=interrupt|rollback branch cancels the run — a separate permission. A runs:read-only PAT passed both the PAT route policy and the route decorator and could interrupt or roll back an active run, bypassing the runs:cancel scope. Decorators cannot express query-parameter-conditional permissions, so the check lives in require_cancel_permission_when_action(), applied at the top of the handler. Regression drives the real helper through the production middleware: runs:read-only PAT + action is 403, the same token joins action-less, runs:read+cancel passes, session control unaffected. * docs(changelog): add the PAT feature entry * docs(readme): add personal access tokens section Repo documentation-update policy requires user-facing features to update README.md in the same changeset; the PAT feature previously touched only backend/docs/API.md and the gateway AGENTS.md. * fix(auth): require runs:cancel for mutating multitask strategies All five run-creation entrypoints were gated only by runs:create, but RunCreateRequest.multitask_strategy accepts interrupt/rollback and start_run forwards it to create_or_reject, which terminates an already-active run. A runs:create-only PAT could therefore kill an existing run through a create request, bypassing runs:cancel. Decorators cannot express body-parameter-conditional permissions, and per-route checks leave the same hole for the next entrypoint, so the gate lives in start_run itself — the single choke point every run-creation path (HTTP routes and internal launchers) flows through. Regenerate launches pass multitask_strategy="reject" and are unaffected; requests without a stamped auth context (internal/test compositions) skip the gate. The check is the shared authz.require_cancel_permission_if primitive; require_cancel_permission_when_action now delegates to it, so every request dimension that carries cancel capability (query action, body strategy) flows through one gate. Regression drives the real middleware stack: runs:create-only PAT + interrupt/rollback is 403 with the exact detail, reject (explicit and default) stays available, runs:create+cancel passes, session control unaffected; a source anchor pins the gate inside start_run. * fix(runs): keep observer joins from applying creator cancel-on-disconnect sse_consumer's finally block applied the record's on_disconnect=cancel policy on ANY consumer's disconnect. The join surfaces (GET /join and the action-less GET/POST stream join) feed it the existing RunRecord, so anyone with thread read access — including a runs:read-only PAT — could cancel a locally-owned running run simply by closing the SSE connection, without runs:cancel. The policy expresses the creator's intent for their own connection; an observer's disconnect must never be read as that intent. sse_consumer gains apply_on_disconnect (default True). The two join surfaces pass False; the creating endpoints (thread-scoped and stateless create-and-stream) keep the creator semantics unchanged. wait_for_run_completion needs no change: its callers are creator-side or post-explicit-cancel paths only. Regression exercises a real generator close — the same machinery Starlette drives on client disconnect — against the production sse_consumer: creator stream disconnect cancels, observer join disconnect does not; a wiring anchor pins both join call sites and the creator defaults. API.md documents the cancel-capability constraint (this fix plus the action/strategy gates) in PAT Constraints. * test(auth): pin the multitask gate behaviorally; state wait invariant Independent adversarial review of the round-5 fixes found the P1-a regression only mirror-pinned: the source anchor could be satisfied by a comment, and deleting the gate from start_run would not fail the suite. This drives the production start_run directly — a create-only auth context gets 403 with the exact detail for interrupt, and a reject request with no cancel permission at all proceeds past the gate (never a permission 403). Also documents wait_for_run_completion's creator-side invariant (every caller is the creating endpoint or post-explicit-cancel) so a future observer wiring thinks twice before reusing it — the one-caller- away variant of the observer-disconnect P1. * docs(changelog): correct the PAT entry's digest and route-policy description The entry said HMAC digests (the implementation stores SHA-256 digests, as documented in API.md and pinned by the repository tests) and claimed the route policy admits 'implemented stateless endpoints' (it admits the thread/run lifecycle routes, narrowing further by scopes). Also notes the cancel-capability gate now covering action and multitask strategies. * fix(auth): enumerate the PAT runs route policy per implemented subroute The runs subtree rule was a GET|POST /runs(/.*)? wildcard — it pre-authorized every current and future subroute under /runs, including methods the router never implemented (e.g. GET /runs/stream), which is the same latent default-deny weakening the threads collection rule was tightened for: a future route added under /runs would become PAT-reachable without an explicit policy change. The wildcard is replaced with six segment-precise rules covering exactly the 14 implemented method+path combinations; the {run_id} slot necessarily matches any single segment, so the POST-only collection names (stream, wait, regenerate, edit-regenerate) are excluded from the GET run-id rule via negative lookahead — no dead method stays pre-authorized. Behavior for implemented routes is unchanged. test_pat_runs_policy_admits_exactly_the_mounted_routes derives the expected set from the mounted thread_runs router instead of a hand-maintained list: every implemented GET/POST route under /runs must be admitted, routes in this router outside the subtree stay denied, and representative unimplemented neighbors are denied — so adding a route under /runs now fails CI until it is explicitly allowlisted, and a removed route leaves a dead rule visible. API.md's PAT constraints list the enumerated routes and drops a feedback mention that belonged to the stateless /api/runs axis. * docs(migration): add the 0017 renumbering coordination note to 0017 The PR's migration-coordination comment states each migration file carries the note; the file did not. Adds it: numbering was generated against main head 0016 alongside #5078 and #4843; whoever merges first keeps the slot, the others renumber on rebase (revision/down_revision plus the bootstrap head assertions). * fix(auth): pad base62 tokens to a fixed 43-char width int.from_bytes discards leading zero bytes, so the unpadded encoder returned a variable-length body — empty for all-zero input, and shorter than 40 characters for any draw below 62**39 (~1 in 14.5M), leaving test_generate_pat_token_format probabilistically flaky and the token body without stable width (review round 6, P3). _base62 now left-pads with "0" to _base62_width(len(data)) — the exact integer digit count (62^43 > 2^256 > 62^42, so 43 for 32 bytes). The format test asserts the exact fixed width instead of a probabilistic floor, and a new unit test pins the all-zero, leading-zero-byte, and max-value edges deterministically. |

feat(extensions): let an out-of-tree extension observe what the agent did (#4863)
* feat(extensions): let an out-of-tree extension observe what the agent did
DeerFlow's extension system can contribute middleware, services and routes,
but an extension cannot answer basic questions about a run without reaching
into host internals. Several of the facts it would need are destroyed by the
operations that produce them:
* The middleware chain injects and rewrites a lot of context — date
reminders, recalled memory, compaction summaries, durable-context data,
image payloads, activated skill bodies. Downstream, none of it is
attributable: at the model-call boundary an injected HumanMessage is
indistinguishable from the user's own, and anything wanting to tell them
apart has to pattern-match prompt wording, which breaks on the next copy
edit.
* Two runs of "the same agent" are only comparable if the chain enforced the
same limits, prompts and thresholds. Recovering that from outside means
reading private attributes and guessing which of them change behaviour — a
guess that rots silently as middlewares gain fields.
* The lead-agent factory resolves a model after runtime overrides, renders a
prompt, filters tools through authorization and composes a stack, all
inside one synchronous call, and none of it survives: a middleware sees its
neighbours but not the prompt, the run worker sees a graph but not what
went into it.
* Summarization is destructive by design. N messages leave the context and
one summary enters it; afterwards only the summary exists, so "which
messages became this?" is not reconstructible.
This adds seven neutral facilities so those facts are recorded where they are
still true, and releases the contract package as 0.2.0.
Message provenance
Producers stamp `deerflow_content_kind` / `deerflow_producer_kind` onto the
messages they inject or rewrite. Stamping is unconditional — a fact whose
presence depends on whether an observer is installed is not a fact — and the
keys are server-owned, so provenance cannot be forged from a request.
Middleware self-description
Twelve middlewares declare their own behaviour-affecting parameters through
a duck-typed `release_policy_parameters()`. Long text is hashed rather than
embedded: a declaration is an identity, not a copy of the prompt.
Agent assembly descriptor
`assemble_lead_agent()` returns the graph plus a descriptor whose fingerprint
answers "did anything about this agent change between these two runs?".
`make_lead_agent()` keeps its graph-only signature — it is the LangGraph
Server ABI declared in langgraph.json. Tools and skills are sorted before
hashing because their assembly order is incidental; middlewares are not,
because stack order decides what wraps what. Host build identity is reported
but excluded from the fingerprint, so a redeploy does not invalidate every
agent's identity.
Context compaction observation
Summarization emits the content hashes of the messages it is about to remove
joined to the summary that replaced them. Content is the only identity
available at that seam: the summary does not become a message, and what later
projects it into a request renders it bounded and escaped rather than
verbatim.
Neutral policy, transform and MCP-source facts
Guardrail decisions are published to runtime context under a `__`-prefixed
key; result-rewriting middlewares append a declared, ordered transform trail;
MCP tools carry their credential-free logical origin.
Extension route identity
Contributed routes are session-authenticated and cannot opt out, but
"logged in" and "administrator" are different questions. Extensions get a
neutral projection of the caller rather than the host's auth context, and
`require_admin` fails closed when identity cannot be determined.
Extension-owned tables
An extension that persists data owns its own MetaData and migration chain, so
its tables are absent from Base.metadata and `alembic revision --autogenerate`
proposes dropping them. Extensions declare a table prefix, which is rejected
at registration if it would shadow a host table.
The contract package stays dependency-free and imports no host code; every new
Protocol method has a default so later additions remain additive. The loader's
pre-1.0 rule requires an exact major.minor match, so extensions written against
0.1 are now refused at startup with an actionable install hint rather than
loading into a host that implements a different surface.
uv.lock records the contract package's new version, so `uv sync --locked` still
resolves on a fresh checkout.

feat(persistence): support custom postgres schema (#3442)
* feat(persistence): support custom postgres schema * fix(persistence): address CI lint/test failures and review feedback - Map missing psycopg import to actionable POSTGRES_INSTALL guidance in sync/async schema-creation helpers - Accept SQLAlchemy compound DSN schemes (postgresql+asyncpg) when injecting search_path, normalizing to a libpq-consumable DSN - Guard keyword-DSN tests with importorskip so they skip without psycopg - Set database=None in sync checkpointer none-fix test to avoid MagicMock backend resolution - Apply ruff import sort and format * fix(persistence): address pg-schema review feedback - Restrict postgres_schema regex to lowercase-only so the quoted CREATE SCHEMA matches the unquoted search_path (PG case-folds it), fixing the mixed-case bug where tables silently fell back to public. - Replace shlex.join/split with libpq-correct backslash escaping for the options parameter so values containing spaces survive intact. - Add normalize_libpq_dsn() and route the async checkpointer pool through dsn_with_search_path() so a +asyncpg suffix is stripped and existing DSN options (e.g. statement_timeout) are merged instead of overridden. - Extract shared ensure_postgres_schema()/ensure_postgres_schema_async() helpers (mapping missing psycopg to the install hint) used by all four provider sites. - Tests: reject mixed-case schemas, preserve space-containing libpq option, cover normalize_libpq_dsn, and assert pool search_path via DSN. * fix(persistence): align pg-schema test with merged store API The main merge moved the sync Store factory to the single-path _resolve_store_config/_sync_store_cm design, dropping the PR's _sync_store_from_database helper. The integration test still imported the removed symbol, breaking test collection (backend-unit-tests). Resolve the store config from a DatabaseConfig and drive it through _sync_store_cm instead. * fix(persistence): address pg-schema review feedback - reject trailing/leading whitespace in postgres_schema via re.fullmatch (a $-anchored re.match let "deerflow\n" through, silently landing tables in public) - re-escape all whitespace (TAB/CR/LF) when re-joining libpq options so a caller's pre-existing options value round-trips losslessly - re-validate the identifier inside create_schema_sql as defense-in-depth at the SQL-emitting boundary - accept the postgres:// short scheme in the alembic search_path injection - close the sync psycopg connection explicitly (psycopg3 __exit__ does not close()), mirroring the async path - drop the partial checkpointer/store reset on a database config change; database is restart-required and the ORM engine is not rebuilt, so a partial reset would half-migrate the deployment * docs(config): complete the postgres_schema migration checklist Address PR review (P1): the documented `public`->schema migration only moved runs, run_events, threads_meta, feedback, and users. That strands every other DeerFlow-owned table -- the four channel_* tables, both scheduled_* tables, agents, and (critically) alembic_version -- in `public`. On restart bootstrap treats the partially-populated target schema as unversioned, re-baselines it, and replays migrations while the real rows stay invisible in `public`. List the full owned set explicitly, call out alembic_version as required, and keep the "discover the rest" query for version-drift safety. * refactor(checkpointer): drop test-only _sync_checkpointer_from_database Address PR review: the helper was only reached by the env-gated integration test and re-implemented the DatabaseConfig->CheckpointerConfig backend resolution that _resolve_checkpointer_config already owns, so a future backend added there would silently miss this path. Mirror the store side of the same test, which reuses the production path directly: _resolve_checkpointer_config(...) + _sync_checkpointer_cm(...). |

feat(agents): database-backed storage for custom agent definitions (#4359)
* feat(agents): database-backed storage for custom agent definitions Add an agent_storage.backend switch (default file, behaviour-unchanged) with a db backend that stores each custom agent as a row in the shared SQL persistence layer, so a multi-instance deployment sees the same agents on every node (#4331, #4357). Introduces an AgentStore interface routing all read/write surfaces, an agents table + migration 0006, startup validation, and a file->db importer. Follows the thread_meta store / run_events backend-switch / 0003_scheduled_tasks migration patterns; no new dependency. * fix(agents): make db storage path production-ready (review round 1) Addresses review feedback on the db/sync agent-storage path: - sql.py: mirror the async engine's per-connection SQLite PRAGMAs on the sync engine (busy_timeout=30000, synchronous=NORMAL, foreign_keys=ON, WAL) so both engines behave identically against the shared DB; guard the engine cache with a lock (double-checked) so concurrent first-touch cannot build duplicate engines or register the connect listener twice. - routers/agents.py + routers/assistants_compat.py: offload the sync-store reads that ran on the event loop (list/get/check, update's pre-read + legacy guard + refresh, and assistants_compat's four list routes) via asyncio.to_thread — on db+postgres each was a network round trip stalling the loop. Writes were already offloaded. - file.py: translate the create() mkdir(exist_ok=False) race FileExistsError into AgentExistsError (router 409, matching SqlAgentStore's IntegrityError path); correct the _write docstring — per-file atomic replace, two commits sequential not transactional. Tests: sync-engine PRAGMA + engine-cache reuse assertions; file create-race -> AgentExistsError; strict Blockbuster anchor over the read endpoints so a regression back onto the loop fails CI. * fix(agents): address round-2 review on the db store path - update_agent tool: align the docstring/inline comment with FileAgentStore._write. Cross-field write atomicity is db-only; the file backend commits config then soul via two sequential os.replace (a crash between them can leave a fresh config.yaml beside a stale SOUL.md). The dropped partial-write *reporting* is an intentional tradeoff — the stage-then-replace safety is preserved (test_update_agent_soul_failure_does_not_replace_config still holds). - SqlAgentStore.update(): true upsert. Catch IntegrityError on the insert-on-missing branch, re-fetch and apply, so two concurrent first-time writes (e.g. two setup_agent handshakes) converge instead of surfacing a raw UNIQUE(user_id, name) violation as a 500. Symmetric with create(). - get_agent_store(): document the graph-subprocess config-resolution invariant (the except->file fallback is a genuine no-config path, not a mask for a misconfigured graph process) and pin it with two tests driving the real get_app_config() file resolution: db resolves from an on-disk config.yaml, file fallback when config is unresolvable. * test(agents): cover SqlAgentStore.update() write-race upsert recovery Mandatory-TDD test for the round-2 fix in 0680340a: two concurrent first-time update()s where the loser's insert hits UNIQUE(user_id, name). Deterministically forces the IntegrityError recovery path by making the first _row probe miss the committed winner, and asserts last-writer-wins instead of a surfaced 500. |

fix(DB): legacy backfill creates missing Index objects on existing tables (#4090)
* fix(DB): legacy backfill creates missing Index objects on existing tables _run_baseline_create_all_sync calls create_all(tables=..., checkfirst=True). SQLAlchemy's Table.create(checkfirst=True) skips the table AND all its Index objects when the table already exists, so an index added to the ORM model after the table was first provisioned (e.g. the partial unique index uq_channel_connection_active_identity on channel_connections) is never created, and stamping 0001_baseline skips alembic's own create_index call too. Fix: after create_all, explicitly create every Index on every baseline table with Index.create(checkfirst=True), which checks for the specific index independently of the table. Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com> * docs(bootstrap): note future-index backfill collision risk for revisions Add a short forward-looking block under the legacy index-level backfill (at backend/packages/harness/deerflow/persistence/bootstrap.py:308-322) pointing the next contributor at the same shape risk the module already documents for _baseline_TABLE_NAMES: if a future post-baseline revision adds an index to a baseline table via op.create_index(...) without checkfirst=True, the backfill above will already have pre-created it and the upgrade will collide with 'index already exists'. Mirror safe_add_column and use checkfirst=True (or a future safe_create_index helper) in such a revision. * fix(#4090): scope legacy backfill index loop to _BASELINE_INDEX_NAMES willem-bd identified that the index loop iterated table.indexes (current ORM models full set), which includes post-baseline indexes like uq_runs_thread_active from 0004. Creating these prematurely before their owning revisions dedup step raises IntegrityError on legacy DBs with duplicate active rows -- bricking bootstrap. Changes: - Add _BASELINE_INDEX_NAMES: frozenset of 23 indexes that 0001_baseline actually creates (mirrors _BASELINE_TABLE_NAMES pattern) - Guard index-creation loop with _BASELINE_INDEX_NAMES filter - Wrap each idx.create() in try/except for graceful duplicate-data handling (uq_channel_connection_active_identity has no owning revision dedup) - Fix misleading checkfirst=True comment for alembic op.create_index - Add guard test pinning _BASELINE_INDEX_NAMES against 0001 output - Add regression test with duplicate active runs (the exact crash case) - Add regression test with duplicate channel connections (graceful handling) * fix(tests): update legacy backfill fixtures to current schema - Seed runs and channel_connections using the actual 0001 baseline columns. - Preserve the duplicate-active-row conditions exercised by the regression tests. - Apply ruff formatting required by backend CI. --------- Co-authored-by: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(runs): cancel degrades to lease takeover for multi-worker (#4064)
* fix(runs): cancel degrades to lease takeover for multi-worker Work item 4 of the multi-worker ownership epic (https://github.com/bytedance/deer-flow/issues/3948). Problem: POST /runs/{run_id}/cancel landing on a non-owning worker returns 409 — the cancel button silently fails under GATEWAY_WORKERS>1 with no sticky routing. cancel() required the current worker to hold the in-memory task/abort_event, which any non-owner pod cannot satisfy. Changes: - RunManager.cancel() returns CancelOutcome enum (cancelled / taken_over / lease_valid_elsewhere / not_active_locally / not_cancellable / unknown) instead of bool, so the router can map each outcome to the right HTTP response. - New store primitive claim_for_takeover(): a single atomic conditional UPDATE that marks a run as error only when status IN (pending, running) AND (lease IS NULL OR lease < now - grace). Closes the stale-read / concurrent-heartbeat race — if the owner renews between our read and write, the UPDATE matches 0 rows and we surface lease_valid_elsewhere. - HTTP cancel + stream-join endpoints route on CancelOutcome: cancelled -> 202 (or 204 with wait=true); taken_over -> 202 immediately (no SSE streaming — the run is terminal on another worker, streaming would hang); lease_valid_elsewhere -> 409 + Retry-After header computed from lease_expires_at + grace_seconds. - RunManager.grace_seconds exposed as a public property; the router no longer reaches into _run_ownership_config. - _is_lease_expired extracted to a module-level function, shared by RunManager.cancel() and MemoryRunStore.claim_for_takeover(). - GATEWAY_WORKERS=1 + heartbeat_enabled=false is zero-regression: the non-local path short-circuits to not_active_locally, preserving the original 409 behaviour the existing tests pin. Tests: 12 new (5 store primitive + 4 cancel-takeover unit + 3 HTTP including a regression guard verifying POST /stream?action=interrupt on a dead-owner run returns 202 instead of hanging on SSE). 244 directly-related tests pass; 36/36 blocking-IO gate pass. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(runs): guard update_status and self-terminate on takeover Two defenses close a split-brain window where the original owner could overwrite a peer's takeover status: - update_status (SQL + memory store) now guards on status IN ('pending','running'). When takeover already set the row to 'error', the owner's final status write matches 0 rows and is dropped. - _persist_status: when update_status returns False, check whether the row exists before attempting recovery via put(). If the row exists (takeover by another worker), skip recovery instead of blindly upserting over the takeover. - Heartbeat _renew_leases: when update_lease returns False (row no longer pending/running or owner changed), cancel the local task so wasted CPU is bounded to the next heartbeat tick (~10s) instead of the full task lifetime. Also fix three reviewer feedback items: - Re-fetch the store row when cancel() returns lease_valid_elsewhere, so Retry-After uses the owner's freshly-renewed lease instead of a stale value from request start. - Fallback 'unknown' in takeover error message when owner_worker_id is NULL (pre-ownership data). - Remove dead else-10 branch from grace_seconds property (unreachable — all callers are downstream of the heartbeat_enabled guard). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(runs): pin split-brain defences from update_status guard + heartbeat Three tests lock down the takeover authoritativeness so a late-running owner cannot overwrite a peer's claim: - update_status must reject writes when the store row is already terminal (taken over by another worker). - _persist_status must skip row-recovery via put() when the row exists but has been taken over. - Heartbeat _renew_leases must cancel the local task when update_lease returns False (row claimed by another worker). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(runs): precise outcome + log when local cancel loses to peer takeover Two reviewer precision nits on the split-brain defence: - _persist_status: branch the skip-reason log on existing["status"]. error → WARNING "peer takeover" (anomalous); interrupted/success → INFO "local cancel/completion race" (expected when user hits stop as the run finishes). Stops noisy false-positive takeover warnings in operator logs. - cancel() local path: when _persist_status returns False, re-check the store. If a peer's claim_for_takeover flipped the row to error between our in-memory cancel and the guarded update_status, surface taken_over instead of cancelled so the client sees a status consistent with the store. Test: test_cancel_returns_taken_over_when_peer_claims_during_local_cancel pins the race outcome. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(runs): widen update_status guard, de-duplicate lease helpers, add coverage Round 3 of reviewer feedback: - Widen update_status guard to status IN ('pending','running','interrupted'). The original guard blocked interrupted→error (the rollback finalize path), losing the "Rolled back by user" message. interrupted is now permitted while error/success stay locked — takeover protection unchanged. - claim_for_takeover False now re-reads the store row to distinguish causes: owner renewed lease → lease_valid_elsewhere; row went terminal → not_cancellable; another worker already took it over → taken_over. - Extract _raise_lease_valid_elsewhere() helper to de-duplicate the 409+Retry-After block shared across cancel_run and stream_existing_run. - Extract _lease_expired_or_null() in persistence/run/sql.py to de-duplicate the lease-expiry SQL WHERE clause shared by claim_for_takeover and list_inflight_with_expired_lease. - 11 new tests: 5 SQL-layer claim_for_takeover (expired/valid/NULL/ terminal/nonexistent), 3 _compute_retry_after unit (NULL/unparseable/ normal), 2 claim re-read precision (terminal/takeover), 1 stream endpoint 409+Retry-After. Not addressed (non-blocking, reviewer agreed): - The 2–3 store.gets in the takeover cold path: optimizing the API to accept a pre-fetched record would couple the router to the manager more tightly than justified by the perf gain. - The lease-expiry inline loop in MemoryRunStore.list_inflight_with_- expired_lease pre-computes cutoff once for all rows; switching to the shared _is_lease_expired helper would recompute datetime.now() per row with no real benefit. 260 related tests pass; 36/36 blocking-IO gate pass; ruff clean. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(runs): de-duplicate lease-expiry helper, restore defensive fallback Address final round of review feedback: - Extract is_lease_expired to deerflow.utils.time (no _ prefix, public utility). Manager and MemoryRunStore now import from the same place instead of the store reaching backward into the manager for a private function. - Restore defensive else-10 fallback in grace_seconds property (removed in an earlier round). The guard is unreachable for current callers but protects future ones from AttributeError. - Comment the transient in-memory interrupted vs store error state when a local cancel is superseded by a peer takeover. - Comment the max(1, ...) floor in _compute_retry_after — the floor is a lower bound, not a poll interval; clients should apply jitter. fix(runs): close multi-worker ownership gaps in run atomicity (#3948) (#4003)
* feat(runs): cross-process run ownership with lease + reconciliation (#3948) Implements work items 2 and 3 of the multi-worker P0 plan (docs/multi_worker.md). Work item 1 (Postgres startup gate, #3960) already landed; this PR makes run creation race-safe across worker processes and lets Postgres deployments recover orphaned inflight runs from crashed workers without mis-marking live runs as orphans. Work item 2 — cross-process atomic create_or_reject - Alembic revision 0004_run_ownership adds runs.owner_worker_id, runs.lease_expires_at, idx_runs_lease, and a partial unique index uq_runs_thread_active (one pending/running run per thread). The index is declared on RunRow.__table_args__ with sqlite_where + postgresql_where (mirroring uq_channel_connection_active_identity) so the empty-DB bootstrap path — which runs Base.metadata.create_all + alembic stamp head without executing any revision's upgrade() — also lands it on fresh deployments. Migration 0004 additionally creates it idempotently for legacy/versioned upgrades. - RunRepository.create_run_atomic is the new atomic primitive: - reject: INSERT directly; the partial unique index catches duplicate active runs; the manager surfaces the result as ConflictError. - interrupt/rollback: SELECT FOR UPDATE the conflicting rows, skip rows whose lease is still valid AND owned by another live worker (raise ConflictError — the INSERT would have failed on the index anyway, and a retry loop cannot make progress), cancel the rest in the same transaction, then INSERT the new row. Rows owned by this worker are interruptible regardless of lease state. - RunManager.create_or_reject dispatches to the store under the existing local lock; same-worker in-memory cancellation runs after the store commit succeeds. MemoryRunStore mirrors the same semantics for tests and database.backend=memory. Work item 3 — lease heartbeat + Postgres reconciliation - RunOwnershipConfig (lease_seconds=30, grace_seconds=10, heartbeat_enabled=false by default), registered as startup-only in reload_boundary.STARTUP_ONLY_FIELDS because the heartbeat background task is created once in langgraph_runtime() and is not rebuilt on config.yaml edits. - When heartbeat_enabled, each worker renewes leases on its own active runs with interval = lease_seconds / 3. The loop is bounded and stop-event-cancellable so shutdown is prompt. - reconcile_orphaned_inflight_runs now runs on every backend — the sqlite-only gate in app/gateway/deps.py is dropped in the same commit so there is no window where Postgres would mis-mark live Worker A runs as orphans. Reconciliation errors only runs whose lease is NULL (legacy pre-ownership rows) or older than grace_seconds. In single-worker mode (heartbeat off, NULL leases) all inflight rows reclaim immediately, preserving the pre-ownership recovery latency. - Heartbeat starts AFTER startup reconciliation and stops BEFORE the in-flight run drain on shutdown so the two cannot race. GATEWAY_WORKERS=1 with heartbeat_enabled=false keeps current behavior. Verified: 170 related tests + full backend suite (minus Docker-gated live tests) green; ruff check + ruff format clean. * fix(runs): tighten unique-violation handling and document clock-sync budget Three follow-up fixes to the cross-process run ownership work in #3948, surfacing during review. 1. _is_unique_violation: detect by driver-native signal, not message text The previous substring heuristic ("unique" + "violat", or "duplicate") missed SQLite's actual phrasing "UNIQUE constraint failed: <table>.<index>" — SQLite says "failed", not "violates", and never "duplicate". On SQLite the detector returned False, the reject path re-raised the raw IntegrityError, and clients saw HTTP 500 instead of ConflictError 409. The conversion is the load-bearing piece of the "store is source of truth" design but was untested — every atomic test used MemoryRunStore, which raises ConflictError directly and never reached this branch. Now prefers driver-native signals: psycopg pgcode/sqlcode "23505" and sqlite3 sqlite_errorcode SQLITE_CONSTRAINT_UNIQUE (reachable through SQLAlchemy IntegrityError.orig). Message matching stays as a fallback with SQLite's exact "unique constraint failed" phrase added. 2. interrupt/rollback: convert exhausted-retry IntegrityError to ConflictError The reject branch converts unique violations to ConflictError. The interrupt/rollback retry loop did not — on the 3rd attempt it re-raised the raw IntegrityError, leaking HTTP 500 for the same race condition that reject surfaces as 409. Symmetric conversion added after the loop; callers now see a consistent ConflictError regardless of strategy. 3. Document clock-sync requirement for multi-worker lease reconciliation reconcile_orphaned_inflight_runs compares another worker's UTC lease_expires_at against this worker's datetime.now(UTC). The only skew budget is grace_seconds (default 10s) — worst case, with the owning worker's heartbeat just about to fire, a peer whose clock is more than ~grace_seconds ahead can mis-reclaim a still-live run as an orphan. Documented in RunOwnershipConfig's docstring (with the math) and in config.example.yaml (with operational guidance), so operators in NTP-poor environments know to raise grace_seconds. Default unchanged: 10s is reasonable for NTP-synced K8s/cloud, and bumping it would slow recovery of genuinely dead workers (lease_seconds + grace_seconds from last heartbeat to reclaim). Tests: - test_create_run_atomic_reject_propagates_conflict_on_unique_violation: end-to-end against a real SQLite-backed RunRepository, pre-inserts an active run, asserts reject-strategy create surfaces as ConflictError rather than raw IntegrityError. - test_is_unique_violation_detects_real_sqlite_integrity_error: unit test for the detector against a real SQLite-raised IntegrityError; asserts driver-level sqlite_errorcode is SQLITE_CONSTRAINT_UNIQUE. - test_interrupt_exhausted_retries_surface_as_conflict_error: pins the symmetric 409 behavior after the retry loop exhausts. Verified: ruff check + ruff format clean; multi-worker + run_repository + owner_isolation + reload_boundary suites green. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(runs): close multi-worker ownership gaps in lease heartbeat and unique-violation detection Five code-review fixes from docs/multi_worker.md: 1. Drop unused ``claim_inflight_runs`` primitive — no caller anywhere. ``create_run_atomic`` does its own inline claim (SELECT FOR UPDATE + cancel) inside the INSERT transaction; a separate claim primitive would split that into two transactions and open a claim→INSERT race. Removes ~40 lines across base.py / memory.py / sql.py plus the unused ``now_iso`` parameter, freeing future RunStore implementations from providing it. 2. Broaden ``_renew_leases`` filter to renew pending/running runs owned by this worker even when ``record.task is None``. The previous ``task is not None`` requirement skipped the brief window between ``create_run_atomic`` inserting the row and the worker spawning the agent task; under event-loop load that window can approach ``lease_seconds``, after which peer reconciliation marks the run ``error`` (visible) or a peer's ``create_or_reject("interrupt")`` silently kills the queued run. Filter now: ``task is None or not task.done()``. 3. Document the unsynchronised ``record.lease_expires_at = new_expiry`` write. ``lease_expires_at`` is the only field on an existing record this path mutates; ``set_status`` / ``_persist_status`` touch other fields, so there is no concurrent writer to race against. Re-acquiring ``self._lock`` would serialise unrelated run mutations for no gain. 4. Gate ``_is_unique_violation`` message fallbacks on ``isinstance(current, (SAIntegrityError, sqlite3.IntegrityError))``. The driver-code path (pgcode/sqlite_errorcode) remains load-bearing; substring fallbacks are now belt-and-suspenders only for cases where the driver attribute isn't reachable through the cause chain. Without the gate, any application exception whose ``str()`` happens to contain "duplicate key" / "unique" + "violat" (CHECK constraint, validation error) would silently surface as HTTP 409 instead of 500. 5. Route ``update_lease`` through ``_call_store_with_retry`` for consistency with every other store call, and wrap ``await self._renew_leases()`` in ``_heartbeat_loop`` with ``except Exception: logger.warning(...)``. Previously a transient error from the snapshot path or an unexpected exception would kill the heartbeat task silently — after which no lease is ever renewed again and every active run eventually looks orphaned. ``except Exception`` lets ``CancelledError`` (BaseException since 3.8) propagate so shutdown cancellation still works. Regression tests: - ``test_heartbeat_renews_pending_run_before_task_is_spawned`` - ``test_is_unique_violation_does_not_misclassify_application_exception`` Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(runs): harden multi-worker migration, memory atomicity, and tz-naive lease comparison Three follow-up fixes to the multi-worker run ownership work: - migration 0004 dedupe pass: cancel superseded duplicate active rows per thread before creating the partial UNIQUE index ``uq_runs_thread_active`` so dirty DBs (Postgres deployments that had reconciliation skipped by the old sqlite-only gate, or any env that ran GATEWAY_WORKERS>1 before this PR) do not abort the alembic upgrade and block gateway startup. Keeps the newest active row per thread, marks the rest as error with an explanatory message. - MemoryRunStore.create_run_atomic interrupt/rollback path: split the single- pass loop into two passes (collect candidates, validate, then mutate) so a ConflictError raised on a later candidate does not leave earlier candidates half-interrupted. Mirrors the SQL store's transactional rollback semantics; the entire test_multi_worker_run_ownership.py suite runs against memory so this divergence was giving false confidence. - RunRepository.create_run_atomic interrupt path: coerce tz-naive ``row.lease_expires_at`` to UTC before comparing against the aware ``cutoff``. SQLite drops tzinfo on read despite ``DateTime(timezone=True)`` (this file's own comment acknowledges it), so the Python-side comparison raised ``TypeError: can't compare offset-naive and offset-aware datetimes`` whenever heartbeat was enabled on SQLite and a lease was non-NULL. Defaults (heartbeat off -> leases always NULL) masked it, but there was no guard against the combination. Follows the existing "naive is UTC" convention from ``coerce_iso``. Each fix ships with a regression test pinning the behavior. Co-Authored-By: heart-scalpel <heart-scalpel@users.noreply.github.com> Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(runs): enforce heartbeat for multi-worker, fix memory-store datetime comparison, lazy-import ConflictError in store layer Three fixes from code review: 1. Extend the startup gate (GATEWAY_WORKERS>1) to also require run_ownership.heartbeat_enabled=true. Without heartbeat every run has a NULL lease, so reconciliation treats all inflight rows as orphans and Worker B would kill Worker A's live runs on every rolling update or scale-up. 2. Fix MemoryRunStore.list_inflight_with_expired_lease to parse created_at as datetime instead of ISO string lexical comparison, and handle tz-naive lease values uniformly with the SQL store. 3. Store layer (sql.py, memory.py) now lazy-imports ConflictError inside create_run_atomic instead of importing from the higher RunManager layer at module level. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(runs): add owner check to update_lease, document create() assumption, restore deleted comment - update_lease (SQL + memory) now requires owner_worker_id match in WHERE clause so the primitive is safe by construction against misuse - create() docstring notes it bypasses atomic create_run_atomic and assumes no active run exists for the thread - restore explanatory comment in MemoryRunStore.aggregate_tokens_by_thread that was dropped in an earlier commit Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(runs): add psycopg3 sqlstate detection and periodic orphan reconciliation - _is_unique_violation now checks sqlstate attribute (psycopg3 uses this instead of pgcode). On Postgres, the only supported multi-worker backend, detection was falling through to the message-substring fallback. - _heartbeat_loop now runs reconcile_orphaned_inflight_runs every 3rd cycle (every lease_seconds) to catch orphans whose lease expires between pod restarts. Single-worker deployments are unaffected (heartbeat off). feat: add scheduled tasks MVP (#3898)
* feat: add scheduled tasks MVP
* fix: harden scheduled task execution semantics
* feat(scheduled-tasks): preset-driven schedule form with timezone and live preview
Replace the raw cron input with a preset Select (hourly/daily/weekly/monthly/custom)
plus structured inputs (time picker, weekday toggles, day-of-month), datetime-local
for one-time tasks, a timezone selector defaulting to the browser timezone, and a
live human-readable preview. Reuses one ScheduledTaskScheduleInput for create and
edit; backend contract unchanged; zero new deps (pure Intl + DST-safe offset helpers).
* feat(scheduled-tasks): full-page i18n + recipe templates + E2E locale pin
Localize the rest of the scheduled-tasks page (filters, detail pane, actions,
edit form, run list, enum values) via t.scheduledTasks.* in en/zh. Add four
built-in recipe templates (GitHub Trending, news digest, issue triage, weekly
report) exposed as a chip row that pre-fills title + prompt + schedule. Pin
Playwright locale to en-US so E2E selectors stay stable against i18n. No backend
change, no new deps.
* fix(scheduled-tasks): idempotent 0003 migration, update head constants, future-date once test
Merge with main surfaced three CI failures:
- 0003_scheduled_tasks create_table collided with legacy test seeds that
build from full metadata; guard with inspector.has_table so the revision
no-ops when the table already exists (0004/0005 are already idempotent via
_helpers.py).
- persistence bootstrap concurrency/regression tests pinned HEAD to main's
0002_runs_token_usage; bump to the new head 0005_scheduled_task_thread_nullable.
- once-task router test used a fixed past run_at and tripped the
must-be-in-the-future validation; use a future date.
* address review: ok-check, 502 for trigger failure, mock fields, migration filename, doc fences
- fetchThreadScheduledTasks now checks response.ok like the other fetchers.
- trigger endpoint returns 502 (not 409) when dispatch fails outright, so
clients can distinguish a real conflict from a server-side failure.
- E2E mock normalizes scheduled-task objects with context_mode/last_thread_id
and nullable thread_id, matching the backend contract the UI renders against.
- Rename 0002_scheduled_tasks.py -> 0003_scheduled_tasks.py to match its
revision id (file was renamed in spirit already; filename now follows).
- CONFIGURATION.md: close the Tool Groups yaml fence and drop the stray fence
after the Scheduler notes so the sections render correctly.
* fix(scheduled-tasks): harden lease, poller, config, and frontend UX after review
* fix(scheduled-tasks): harden run lifecycle, overlap skip, non_interactive gating, and DST conversion after review
- defer a once task's terminal status to the run-completion hook; the task
stays running until the real outcome, and a startup sweep cancels once
tasks orphaned by a crash (launch-time 'completed' could stick forever)
- record interrupted runs as a distinct 'interrupted' run status with a
readable message; an interrupted once task ends 'cancelled', not 'failed'
- enforce overlap_policy=skip for fresh_thread_per_run via an active-run
pre-check (same-thread ConflictError can never fire across fresh threads)
- protect terminal run statuses from the late launch-path 'running' write
- honor context.non_interactive only for internally-authenticated callers;
arbitrary clients can no longer strip ask_clarification
- fix DST-stale timezone offset in zonedLocalToUtcIso by re-deriving the
offset at the resolved instant (once tasks fired an hour late around
spring-forward and the create->edit round-trip diverged)
- drop dead ScheduledTaskRunRepository.update_by_run_id; share one Gateway
API error helper between channels and scheduled-tasks frontends
* fix(scheduled-tasks): close review round-3 gaps in guards, concurrency, and API ergonomics
- scrub internal-only context keys (non_interactive) from the assembled run
config for non-internal callers: gating body.context alone left the same
key smuggle-able through the free-form body.config copied verbatim by
build_run_config
- guard update_after_launch with protect_terminal so the launch bookkeeping
write cannot clobber a once task already finalized by a fast-failing run's
completion hook (parent-row sibling of the run-row guard)
- reject a manual trigger while the task has an active run (409) instead of
launching a duplicate concurrent run on fresh_thread_per_run
- re-arm a terminal once task to enabled when PATCH pushes run_at into the
future; previously the endpoint returned 200 with a next_run_at that could
never be claimed
- make max_concurrent_runs a real global cap: each poll claims only into the
remaining budget of active (queued/running) scheduled runs
- paginate GET /scheduled-tasks/{id}/runs (limit<=200, offset) and push the
thread filter of /threads/{id}/scheduled-tasks into SQL
- stamp context.user_id on scheduler-launched runs, matching IM channels, so
user-scoped guardrail providers see the owning user

feat(persistence): wire alembic migrations, bootstrap schema on startup (#3706)
* feat(persistence): wire alembic migrations + bootstrap schema on startup Closes #3682. Pre-#3658 DBs lack the `runs.token_usage_by_model` column because alembic was never wired up — startup only ran `create_all`, which never ALTERs existing tables. Adds a hybrid bootstrap in FastAPI lifespan (replaces bare `create_all`): - empty DB → create_all + stamp head - legacy DB → stamp 0001_baseline + upgrade head - versioned DB → upgrade head Concurrency: Postgres `pg_advisory_lock` (cross-process); SQLite per-engine `asyncio.Lock` + 30s `PRAGMA busy_timeout` on both prod and alembic engines. Column revisions use `safe_add_column` / `safe_drop_column` idempotent helpers as fallback. Other bits: - 0001 baseline (chain root) + 0002 add `runs.token_usage_by_model` - `include_object` filter so alembic ignores LangGraph checkpointer tables - `make migrate-rev MSG="..."` for authoring new revisions (no migrate/stamp targets — startup is the only execution path) - Tests: three-branch decision, concurrency, #3682 regression, env filter, blocking-IO gate anchor - CLAUDE.md: new "Schema migrations" section * fix(style): fix lint error * perf(persistence): address review feedback on alembic bootstrap Behavioural fixes - _SQLITE_LOCKS now keyed via WeakKeyDictionary so id-reuse after GC cannot return a stale, loop-bound lock and the cache cannot leak one entry per disposed engine. - safe_add_column compares nullable / server_default against the desired column when the name already exists and emits a warning on drift, surfacing manual-ALTER workarounds instead of silently no-op'ing. - _postgres_lock issues SET LOCAL idle_in_transaction_session_timeout=0 before pg_advisory_lock, so managed Postgres cannot kill the idle lock-holding session mid-upgrade and silently release the advisory lock. - legacy branch now backfills missing baseline tables via a restricted create_all (Base.metadata.create_all scoped to _BASELINE_TABLE_NAMES). Restores pre-#1930 upgraders whose channel_* tables were never provisioned, without pre-empting future create_table revisions for newly-added models. Schema parity - runs.token_usage_by_model gains server_default=text("'{}'") in both the ORM model and the 0001_baseline create_table, matching what 0002 adds via ALTER. create_all and alembic-upgrade paths now produce identical column definitions. - New parity test compares Base.metadata.create_all output against a pure alembic upgrade base->head, asserting column-set, nullable, and server_default agree across all tables (normalized through the same helper safe_add_column's drift check uses). Guards - test_baseline_table_names_constant_matches_0001 pins _BASELINE_TABLE_NAMES to 0001_baseline.upgrade()'s actual output -- the constant cannot drift silently when someone edits 0001. - test_legacy_backfill_skips_non_baseline_tables verifies the restricted backfill does not create a phantom table on Base.metadata, modelling a future revision that would otherwise collide on op.create_table. Doc residuals - Three-branch decision table is now consistent across bootstrap.py top docstring, engine.py comment, test module docstring, and CLAUDE.md. - Stale test anchor in blocking_io/test_persistence_engine_sqlite.py docstring now points at the real file. * fix(style): fix lint error * fix(persistence): close drift detection holes - _check_column_drift compares column type via a family equivalence allowlist ({JSON, JSONB}). Catches the wrong-type workaround `TEXT NOT NULL DEFAULT '{}'` that previously slipped through silently, while keeping Postgres JSON/JSONB dialect reflection quiet. Reflected and desired type are also echoed in every drift warning's payload for operator triage. - Extract _escape_url_for_alembic so bootstrap._alembic_safe_url and scripts/_autogen_revision share the ConfigParser % escape rule instead of duplicating it. - backend/README.md: add `make migrate-rev MSG=...` to Commands and a Schema Migrations section per the repo's README/CLAUDE.md sync policy. - test_base_to_dict.py: scope the test ORM class to an isolated MetaData so the create_all-vs-alembic parity test (added in the previous commit) is not polluted by the phantom table on the full pytest session. |
