* fix(todos): keep an unusable stored todo list from failing every model call
`todos` is a reducer channel that `POST /threads/{id}/state` and run input can
Overwrite directly, but neither boundary validated its shape. The todo
middleware rendered it with `entry.get(...)` in both `before_model` and
`after_model`, so a non-object entry — or a value that is not a list — raised
AttributeError on every model call, permanently for that thread.
Validate caller-written todos beside `goal` in `_normalize_external_todos`: a
list of objects with string content and a known status, or HTTP 400. The
middleware now reads the channel through `_usable_todos` and ignores entries of
any other stored shape, so checkpoints and direct integrations written before
this boundary still run.
* fix(todos): normalize stored todos in token-usage attribution
TokenUsageMiddleware reads the same stored `todos` channel through
`_build_attribution` whenever the last AIMessage calls write_todos, and
`token_usage.enabled` defaults on, so a value the todo middleware now tolerates
still aborted the step here. Route the stored list through `_normalize_todos`
before reading entries.
Document that a caller-written todo without a status is accepted as pending and
cover that shape at both external boundaries.
* docs: keep backend agent guidance within size budgets
* fix(todos): keep the channel metadata strip on caller-written todos
The dedicated todos branch in strip_server_owned_state_metadata replaced the
generic list branch, which stripped server-owned metadata from every entry. A
caller could therefore persist additional_kwargs.original_user_content,
untrusted_input, or artifact.knowledge_sources on a todo entry. Re-apply the
per-entry strip after normalization, keeping None and empty lists untouched.

* fix(agents): keep the todo completion reminder when a model call is retried
TodoMiddleware drained its queued completion reminder inside
wrap_model_call before calling the handler. LLMErrorHandlingMiddleware
sits outside it and retries a failed call by running that wrap again, so
the retry went out with an empty queue while the run had already spent
one of its two reminders on the lost one.
Drain the reminder once per wrap, and when the handler raises put it
back in front of the queue without counting it again, then re-raise. A
run whose reminder state was cleared while the call was in flight does
not get it back.

* fix(middlewares): end length-capped turns cleanly, prevent todo re-engagement, annotate write_file budget
When a model hits its per-response output cap (finish_reason=length) while
emitting a write_file tool call, ModelLengthFinishReasonMiddleware suppresses
the truncated call and stamps model_length_termination. TodoMiddleware must
not re-engage (jump_to=model) on such a capped turn -- doing so re-emits the
same oversized call into the same cap, producing up to 3 futile responses
with junk fragments instead of a clean truncation notice.
Changes:
- TodoMiddleware.after_model: skip completion reminder jump when
additional_kwargs.model_length_termination is present (follows the existing
deerflow_error_fallback precedent).
- ModelLengthFinishReasonMiddleware: always append the length notice when
tool calls were suppressed, even when partial text survived (collapses the
visible-content ternary). Fixes a latent bug in append_visible_text that
silently dropped string content.
- tools.get_available_tools: annotate write_file's model-visible description
with the model's configured max_tokens output budget. Guarded extraction
safely handles missing or non-numeric tokens, and the tool is cloned via
model_copy to keep module-level singletons immutable across assemblies and
prevent guidance leakage to unbudgeted models.
- release_policy_parameters() updated for both middlewares.
- AGENTS.md chain entries (#20, #35) and module docstrings updated within
AG002 guidance limits.
- Tests: 8 new/focused unit tests + 1 updated pin + 1 real create_agent()
integration test reproducing the incident (thread b1723286).

* make format
* fix(middleware): Clear stale todo reminder counts (#2892)
* add size guard for _completion_reminder_counts and add a integration test
* fix(todo-middleware): prevent premature agent exit with incomplete todos
When plan mode is active (is_plan_mode=True), the agent occasionally
exits the loop and outputs a final response while todo items are still
incomplete. This happens because the routing edge only checks for
tool_calls, not todo completion state.
Fixes#2112
Add an after_model override to TodoMiddleware with
@hook_config(can_jump_to=["model"]). When the model produces a
response with no tool calls but there are still incomplete todos, the
middleware injects a todo_completion_reminder HumanMessage and returns
jump_to=model to force another model turn. A cap of 2 reminders
prevents infinite loops when the agent cannot make further progress.
Also adds _completion_reminder_count() helper and 14 new unit tests
covering all edge cases of the new after_model / aafter_model logic.

* Fix runtime argument annotation in before_model

* test: add unit tests for TodoMiddleware
Cover context-loss detection logic:
- _todos_in_messages and _reminder_in_messages helpers
- _format_todos formatting
- Reminder injection when write_todos truncated
- No-op when todos visible or reminder already present
- abefore_model async delegation
* test: fix event loop error in todo middleware async test
Use asyncio.run() instead of get_event_loop().run_until_complete()
to avoid RuntimeError on Python 3.12 where no default event loop
exists in the main thread.
